the line is blurry, anyone whose gotten good at art knows that most of the process is picking and choosing which automation you're ready to discard, but like, outsourcing the entire finished work to an algorithm you didn't set the bounds of is outside the purview of authorship

the thing that makes art yours is not the effort, it's the intent. splattering paint on a canvas improvisationally is still more artistic than prompting, because even if you don't control exactly where the paint falls you are still in complete control of the procedure

the comparisons to photography don't hold either. a photo is an intentional manipulation of reality, a choice to interact with a certain stream of light in a certain way, with prompting yr just interfacing with someone else's procedure they've already laid out for you. it's art but it's not yours

On a related note, the Museums For All initiative provides free and/or reduced admissions to 1,600+ museums around the US for people receiving food assistance (SNAP/EBT) and I encourage anyone who can to take advantage of it! It's a fantastic program and more people need to know about it.

The initiative also applies to some aquariums. My favorite of which is the Monterey Bay Aquarium - they give EBT cardholders free admission for them and 3(!!!) extra guests!
