the coldwater river that runs thru merritt is a salmon spawning zone yeah :’) at bass coast they’re rly intense about not putting anything in the river because of the salmon habitat. i had no idea there were beavers around there tho!!!!!

thank you for saying this, the lack of pussy variety in porn - the lack of pussy General - is so tiring and sad

hoodoos!! i hope you two can make it to bass coast sometime, the hoodoos in Merritt that tower over the festival camping are so cool and mystic feeling. swallows love to swoop and dance thru them all day long

the closest thing to an actual studied phenomenon is the “”Seattle Freeze”” but even that feels like it’s been barely researched despite being such a widely recognized culture both inside and outside the area

hell fucking yeag

hot take: it’s not you, it’s Seattle and the broader PNW (honestly even entire west coast). there a sickness in the social fabric of that region that keeps people insular and résistent to sustaining new connections. i am so assured of this i’m compelled to anthropologically research it. ur not alone

not only has it gotten worse on the propaganda front but the tools of war have also become further detached from reality; drones piloted by 20 yr olds an ocean away, recruited on the basis that their COD skills would transfer into real life. we have always been willing to deepen our inhumanity
September 11, 2026 at 3:17 PM
idk where i’m going with this. ig i’m reflecting on how the last 25 yrs since 911 have shaped the global perception of imperialism; how propaganda has detached the avg NAican from the abject horror of military conquest. and how nothing has meaningfully changed, despite that. in fact its gotten worse

it wouldn’t be until i was living in france at 15 years old, sitting at dinner+watching the news, where i’d see primetime coverage for the 1st time that wasn’t censored, that very openly showed the horror of battlefield footage, blood, even partially-obscured bodies. this was during the arab spring

i remember my dad talking about the war with a very simple “good vs evil” lens. that bad people who do evil things would be served justice from the good people who were fighting for it. that’s what this is all for. i remember seeing saddam hussein’s execution video online at 11-12 years old

i was very young but i vividly remember the TV being wall-to-wall coverage of the ‘War on Terror’ every night for the following 2 years, and then the invasion of iraq. the news pumping out images of american might and valience with an slick veneer of grandiosity, invulnerability, and power

i think it’s entirely possible to have a structure of paid employees without automatically succumbing to corporate greed. accountability, transparency, using the assets of being a nonprofit (having a board, sharing financial reports, budget mgmt) are all factors in that

vollys overextending their energy+ capabilities in an effort to show up for their community also ends up serving no one once they burn themselves out from saying yes too much. more reason why defining limitations and boundaries is so crucial if ppl are offering their labour with no compensation
September 9, 2026 at 12:40 PM
(+) restrategized from the ground up. you said it urself that when cons are small, the volunteer labour comes together simply. when u have 15k+ attendees the game is different! roles with strict definitions, limitations and *boundaries* are essential, and i think compensation counts as a boundary
September 9, 2026 at 12:33 PM
great article that speaks to concerns ive been feeling towards cons for a while now. some similar structural issues are showing up in other fast-scaling events that rely on volunteer labour, like certain music festivals. i think (major) cons are at a point now where organizing needs to be (+)
