Ironically, France's government did a study several years ago that found there was no safe or technically feasible way to mandate online age verification without massively expanding surveillance and eviscerating online privacy.
France just became the first nation in Europe to ban teens from social media and, you guessed it, they’re forcing everyone to upload their ID’s for social media access in order to enforce it.

NEW EPISODE: Republicans know they’re on track to lose the 2026 midterms—and they’re trying to rig the election to stop it. I break down the Save America Act, the most sweeping voter suppression bill in a generation. www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYsx...

The Rational League looks at the SAVE Act: “A political movement that insists on solving a problem the data cannot substantiate is not engaged in reform. It is redefining the electorate through procedural filtration…[and] structural barriers…the issue is not fraud prevention but power allocation.”

@stanmonitor.bsky.social Curious why @theophite is on the Bots, Scammers, Copypasta, Blank Accounts, Content Aggregator list? They were mentioned by someone I follow and seem like a real person.

Perfect night last night for the total lunar eclipse, viewed at Northwestern University's Dearborn Observatory. Unfortunately, I forgot to charge my camera with 30x optical zoom, so these Pixel 9 Pro shots will have to do. The zoom on the telescope was much better in any case 😉

HBO's anthology "The White Lotus" is a class satire that skewers high-end tourism, but for Season 3, it also has served as an ad for luxury travel with partnership and marketing deals.
The show also undermines its own satire, inviting us to laugh at the awful rich people while simultaneously glamorizing their lifestyle via The White Lotus resorts. "Yes, so-and-so is awful, but doesn't this resort for the excessively wealthy look exquisite?"
Sorry, but I just don’t think “rich people are awful” is the jaw-dropping take that the creator seems to think it is

On one hand, everything about this subplot on The White Lotus is so utterly predictable and cliche (like most of the show). On the other hand, this scene was still satisfying because Leslie Bibb nailed a certain kind of unfortunately common Trump supporter.

I don't think most people realize yet the degree to which the federal government has been compromised — from information systems to authoritarian sympathizers (if not actual foreign agents). Assuming we get the opportunity to fix this before it's too late, the task will be colossal.
Former Hawaiian congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, a Democrat who became an independent and then turned Republican, on a 52-48 vote, gains Senate approval to become the director of ODNI.

Fired unfired DOGE bro Marko Elez is going full mask-off on X now too, following Will Stancil's personal Gestapo officer Captive Dreamer along with Lomez, Bronze Age Pervert, Raw Egg Nationalist.
This is why Connelly isn't the right person for the job. Not bc he's wrong on procedure, but bc he and others don't grasp that Rs have no interest in oversight. Yes, we need to push for oversight, but THEN when it is inevitably blocked, we need leaders who will raise hell for the public to see.
You really need to see what happened with Oversight and the vote to subpoena Elon Musk because it's a complete farce but also one that really calls for a stronger voice from the ranking member than Democrats have to stop this nonsense www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTPY...

Just saw on clearsky.app that 55.83% of BlueSky users are blocked by someone. That's an absurdly high number, facilitated by these malicious and/or lazy blocklists.

Bsky is pretty great, but the moderation lists feature really needs some attention. Too many people using it to troll or encourage blocking/muting based on guilt-by-follow.

Breaking News: President-elect Trump’s advisers are said to be trying to identify a disease that could help them justify closing the U.S. border with Mexico. They have spent months trying to find the right disease to build their case.
