Before Target decided to embrace bigotry, I used to buy most toiletry items there, since my local Target doesn’t lock them up. (They do lock up pricy liquor and higher-end skincare, but most stuff is grab-and-go.) But now I’m boycotting Target, so it’s back to buzzing for drugstore mascara.

I can share my West Loop Walgreens experience with locked items: when employee finally arrives, I point at the item I want, the employee retrieves it from the case, then hands it to me and I carry it to the counter. (I hate all of this.)

Tenure at *Minnesota* at that. It’s not even the top ranked Big 10 law school! Where does he think he works, Harvard or Yale?

I suspect some people perceive literal public service as a bad thing—the mayor is supposed to be a Big Shot ordering people around, not politely applying wristbands and offering directions like some minimum-wage nobody. Lotta authoritarian followers out there.

Proud moment: when a respected con law prof came down to the law review office (!) to tell us an article was one of the best things he’d read on the post-Civil War amendments (sigh) in years and he was looking forward to seeing the final paper in print. (2/2)

3L year, I was one of 3 articles editors. No peer-review, but policy was to run every draft article by a faculty member with appropriate expertise to make sure we weren’t going to publish anything embarrassing. (1/2)

In my 2L year, I cite-checked an article that had 528 footnotes. Even with the help of several “source gatherers” (other law review members who tracked down anything not online), I needed an extension. But I did it, because that was the job.

Student-run law reviews rightly get criticism for not being peer-reviewed, but they absolutely pull every source to confirm it exists and says what it is cited for! That’s what a cite-check is! You check ALL the cites.

I learned the proper use of em dashes, en dashes, and hyphens the hard way—on law review. AI can pry them from my cold, dead hands.
