Save the cinema museum fundraiser has again a generous donor matching donations for up to £5K, so another good reason if you can to drop them some cash to help them buy their home. www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/the-cinema...

Another day goes by and so another reason to help try and save the Cinema Museum. Also, by doing this you help stick it to the property developers for years trying to squeeze them out.
Help secure the Cinema Museum's future!

It's the UK's only museum dedicated to the experience of cinema-going. It's in the old Lambeth Workhouse, where seven-year-old Charlie Chaplin lived with his destitute mother. And it needs £500k in the next three weeks!

Final day reminder that a generous donor is matching all bank holiday donations to The Cinema Museum finally being able to buy their building.
Reminder that today is the last chance to have any donation you can spare, doubled by an incredibly generous donor. And if you’ve not visited the Cinema Museum, I highly recommend it if you can.
The Cinema Museum still needs help to secure their premises; there's a donor who, all this bank holiday weekend, is going to match donations, so if you haven't given yet, throw in a bit now, and claim gift aid so it can do the most good!

Worth reposting daily, to maximise the generous matching donation. It's not just about the cinema museum and what they screen; they support ventures like @thenickelcinema.bsky.social saving the day of my The Outfit screening by oiling the print (described to much mirth) to allow it to be shown
And any donations between now and midnight on the 1st Sept will be doubled by a anonymous donor, up to £30,000!

Fair to say this is a very entertaining film, very 80s in a good way, and I may have said a few words about it in the past, too: www.uk-anime.net/LiveAction/Y...

Plus later in the month a double of Kamikaze Girls (one of Third Windows best) and Mermaid Legend; they even have a showing of Love Exposure (sensibly with an intermission). Doing @thirdwindowfilms.com proud at the Nickel
I'm back at @thenickelcinema.bsky.social on Aug 4th to introduce two of my favourite Shinya Tsukamoto (Tetsuo: Iron Man) films w/ @thirdwindowfilms.com! Come see GEMINI and KILLING: thenickel.co.uk

Ooooh now, this is some superbly good news to start the week.
Michael Almereyda's moody, deadpan reimagining of Dracula's Daughter, NADJA, will have its new 4K restoration UK premiere at this year's @cineredis.bsky.social ahead of a Transmission physical media release.

I must have asked this before but @thirdwindowfilms.com any chance of releasing Tsukamoto's films you've yet to do so: Nightmare Detective and its sequel (prompted by watching Matsuda in Transcending Dimension this evening) and the third Tetsuo movie. It'd be a clean sweep of his films.

For those interested @thenickelcinema.bsky.social in April has a rare double bill of Toshiki Toyoda films: 9 Souls and Blue Spring. Doing the good work to support @thirdwindowfilms.com and good cinema everywhere. thenickel.co.uk/screening/246 & thenickel.co.uk/screening/245. Foolish to miss out

@thirdwindowfilms.com Angel Guts Collection watched (except Red Flash as in Nami). Won't be everyone's cup of tea but at its best it delves deeply into its characters, I suspect more into the time than I can understand (capitalism in Red Vertigo at the fore). Visceral. Visual. In short: buy it.
January 20, 2026 at 9:05 PM
Another day another Angels Guts film from @thirdwindowfilms.com. Red Classroom was excellent and Angel Guts: Nami might be just as good, if not better. Takes aspects of the genre and shreds it, again going deeply into the psychology of its protagonists and undermines expectations

Just watched Angel Guts: Red Classroom, the first film in @thirdwindowfilms.com's upcoming Angel Guts collection. It's going to need some filtering through the consciousness. Quite remarkable.

Listing films for a friend's teenage daughter who wants to both get into film and is interesting in getting into cinematography, to watch. Everything from silent to today. Any suggestions for the list? To contextualise the last two I added: A Snake of June and All That Heaven Allows. Anything goes

What's this? A duo of releases from @thirdwindowfilms.com by #ShinyaTsukamoto: A Snake of June and Tokyo Fist playing as a double bill @thenickelcinema.bsky.social in December? Definitely a case of Christmas coming early. And A Snake of June Tsukamoto's best work. Tinted black and white, gorgeous

Watched this from @filmsradiance.bsky.social yesterday and it's one powerful film. Some remarkable and stark images that prefectly fit the tone.
Nagisa Oshima's first independently produced film, THE CATCH, shows a U.S. pilot crash-landing in rural Japan at the tail-end of WW2.

The weekend is looking better already with the arrival of the holy grail of screeners, from our friends at @thirdwindowfilms.com. It's enough to give me second thoughts about those Anna May Wong and Shohei Imamura films I already have tickets for over the weekend... behold the Maiku Hama trilogy.
September 5, 2025 at 12:23 PM
Finally got round to @thirdwindowfilms.com's A Samurai in Time, having missed my screening of it months ago, and yes it is as everyone says: very good. A warm-hearted film structured on kindness, humanity and the story is neatly knitted together. So if like me you've been putting it off: don't.
