“Would you happen to have a Ben Hur 1860? The third edition. The one with the erratum on page 116.”
Not on the bus, but close by. Constantly distracted while scanning the shelves and looking at what’s hanging on the walls.
Looking for a reputable antiquarian bookseller in or near Massachusetts to assess and possibly purchase a large library.
Thank you.

Whew! I feared William Boot had been disappeared on a flight to El Salvador’s megaprison.

A new must-read dispatch.

“This week was marked by stunningly brazen, unquestionably illegal, and unconstitutional assaults on the nation’s historic traditions of due process and free speech…”
By week’s end, the Musk-Trump partnership increasingly resembled less a functional constitutional democracy and more a mafia-style racketeering organization that blended private business profit with official government power. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/trump-musk...
Trump, Musk Shred Constitutional Protections as Country Lurches Toward Mafia State
This week's news roundup by our intrepid foreign correspondent William Boot, as it should be covered by the US media

🚨🚨🚨 “We aren’t just outside the bounds of normal constitutional operations; we’re several standard deviations outside anything America has ever experienced before. We can clearly see what’s happening is wrong—illegal and unconstitutional—and the actors who can do something about that just … aren’t.”
We're living through not a "constitutional crisis" but a "constitutional crash" — the sudden, ER-style flatlining of the healthy biorhythms of our 249-year-old constitutional order. Our national system is dead on the table—can it be shocked back to life? www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/america-s-...

🚨NEW🚨: Donald Trump is attempting to strip away federal support for libraries. We will NOT let that happen.

Last night the President signed an order to gut the Institute of Museum & Library Services. But together, we know we can show up & defeat it.

There were layers of historic irony in the Kennedy Center booing last night. Just look at the concert program. @pablo.show @nicollewallace.bsky.social @esglaude.bsky.social
Added ironic context re J.D. Vance getting booed at the Kennedy Center: The concert featured Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 2 written for David Oistrakh, born in Odessa Ukraine. 1/2

“‘Starman’ reconnects us to [the] original cosmic rapture and wonders … returns us to that moment when the promise of space carried a spiritual thrust. It says that our desire to explore other worlds, and to find life on them, filled a religious hunger in us. But that we all kind of forgot that.”
‘Starman’ Review: An Outer Space Documentary That’s Out of This World
Full of extraordinary footage, Robert Stone's blissed-out mind-bender of a movie meditates on the possibilities of life in the universe.

The latest weekly installment on the Trump/Musk junta, “the greatest voluntary and intentional squandering of global goodwill and friendship in recorded history”… with a fitting and bitter coda noting the regime’s effort to pressure to release Andrew Tate and his brother…
I believe the US media would be more honest about wanna-be dictator Donald Trump and the seizure of our government by Elon Musk’s junta if it was happening overseas, so here’s my weekly news roundup in the style of such over-the-top dispatches: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/trump-inte...

Yes, the Trump-Vance performance yesterday was a disaster and a danger. But let’s not lose sight of the fact that Trump’s rant about Hunter Biden’s bedroom and bathroom and all things Russiagate was demented, real mad king stuff. Dude is tormented and unable to control himself. Completely nuts.

If there was any lingering doubt, it’s over. The gravestone for the American Century will record that it was finally declared dead on February 28, 2025. R.I.P. Pax Americana. The sacrifices of past generations in two world wars have been squandered and undone.

Read between the lines in the bio of homeschooled 23-yr old computer prodigy Luke Farritor, now part of the DOGE team. No sign he’s taken classes in literature, political science, history, psychology, sociology, or philosophy.

At UNL’s Raikes School he skipped a class on Business Law and Ethics.
This is Luke Farritor. He is the 23 year old that fired all the staff in charge of our nuclear arsenal.
Don't worry, though. He completed an internship with SpaceX, so I'm sure he is clearly qualified to determine whether our nuclear arms should be adequately staffed by qualified persons. 🤯🤯🤯
