Thanks, @privateeyenews.bsky.social 😎!

Good to be recognised for our work on the Leeds Greens and the bonkers goings-on there over the past few months.

Only fair to give mention back to Private Eye for piquing our interest with its report at the start of August.

Holding people, companies and authorities to account is a key pillar of journalism and I'm extremely passionate about it.

That's why I didn't let a legal letter dropping at the eleventh hour last Friday stop us from publishing our revelations on the Leeds Green Party. 1/2

I have to admit, I'm struggling to agree with Chris Whippey that the Tetley's shire horse is as important as the Billy Bremner statue outside Leeds United's Elland Road.

But delving into its history, I am keenly aware that it is, well, very important.

Interested in your views ⬇️
What would your reaction be if you came across a horse, laying on its side, covered in tarpaulin, in the middle of a building site? 🐴

It turns out, there was more to this than meets the eye. 1/2

Was hoping we'd find Benidorm on the list 🤣!

Great read from @djstimms.bsky.social and if you think the idea of watching your partner wash while you binge Netflix on the bed is odd, do check out my Home of the Week in today's briefing.

Is it odd? Am I the odd one for thinking it's odd?
Cannes, Versailles and Lisbon, just three of the glamourous locations Leeds council officers travelled to between April 2025 and March this year.

The map below gives you an idea of the other places the city's custodians jetted to in that time period. 1/3

A story for the ages.

I'm glad we've managed to somewhat solve this. Don't fancy the idea of this being adopted more widely and my beloved Leeds United being rebranded as Leeps United 🤣🤣.
We think we’ve cracked the case of the infamous “Welcome to Leeds” sign outside the city’s train station, thanks to the help of a typography expert.

Idle chit chat over the sign has been rife, with one commenter suggesting an inverted “p” had been used instead of a “d” - Welcome to Leeps. 1/3

Those who know me well will be surprised to hear it was quite strange writing about myself.

Those who don't, what you waiting for?

In all seriousness though, this isn't just me rambling on about my life. 1/2
Welcome to our first ever writer's edition, this one from @braddeasjourno.bsky.social ✍️.

Get to know one of our two staff writers a bit more intimately. No prizes for guessing one of Brad's biggest passions.

Among the more substantial news, I have to say the sheep-debacle landing in my inbox was an eyebrow-raiser 🤨.

PETA calling for a plaque for all the sheep who "suffered and died so their fleece could be sold there".

Read the full quote in the briefing and see what you think.

Just had some balloons fly up my screen on a different social media platform and remembered it's my birthday 🤣🤣!

Not the same turning 31 - last year's big bash was an absolute movie.

Great read from my colleague @miajankowicz.bsky.social! Some proper top class insights in there about a man who was notoriously private.

Give it a go and let us know what you think!

Where to start after the death of the mercurial Humphrey Smith?

Really interesting insight from @davidmbarnett.bsky.social on @bradfordlitfest.bsky.social and UK BookFest, run by Stephen White.

I must admit, the latter event is much more "me". Although I've never attended Lit Fest despite working in Bradford for eight years so perhaps I need to give it a try.

That's how author David Barnett encapsulates the two book festivals vying for readers' attention in Bradford this week.

📣 This is my first solo byline and it took a lot of work to bring together and I couldn't be more proud of the outcome.

It does have a paywall but we think our journalism is well worth it - no clickbait, in-depth reads that will get you thinking.

"In my life, I’m a king, that £10, that’s me"

I actually set out on this story with the view of looking at homelessness more broadly in Bradford.

Is outside the mags court the new hub after the arches were boarded up?

Has the problem been moved rather than dealt with? 1/4
When a large encampment appeared outside Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court a few months ago, the "content creators" quickly piled in.

A prime example of everything wrong in Bradford, they said. But what was actually happening at the site? 1/3
