My parents weren’t very… involved. As a kid, my dad would regularly hand me cold cans of opened Chef Boyardee and a spoon for dinner. Haven’t touched it in 30 years, but I can still remember that greasy coating on the roof of my mouth. 🤢

They like to finger wag at the younger folks, but always fail to mention that $125 billion of student debt is owned by senior citizens. Our elderly are going into retirement with this stuff still hanging around their necks.

He said even worse than Janet Jackson! 😆

You know who was worse than Janet Jackson? That guy her brother hung out with.

My husband mentioned this morning that 14% of Americans are Spanish speakers, but only 0.6% of Super Bowl Half Time Shows have been in Spanish.

She can sit there and rot in silence. No clemency for the enabler.

For three springs in a row, we had a woodpecker that would land on the window screen and start beating the crap out of the glass around 6 am. I was waking up to an adrenaline rush on repeat. I don’t know how the window didn’t break. Little asshole.

Hope your early riser learns to sleep in soon!

I wonder what the folks claiming Puerto Ricans aren’t American would do if we suggested giving up all claim to territories that are not an official state. We’re out there trying to take over other governments, and aren’t claiming the ones that already willingly live under our sovereignty.

My husband teases me that I’m such a good cook, because of kitchen witchery, since I always seem to cut or burn myself in exchange for the meal. (Hope yours isn’t too bad a burn.)

My uncle passed in November, and I was torn about showing up. I didn’t see a tear shed at his memorial. He was not a good man, and we were all mourning what we went through being around him, more than the loss of him. It was more cathartic than I thought it would be. I hope it is for you too.

Sounds good! My lazy Sunday meal is sesame oil sautéed mushrooms and spinach with oyster sauce and sesame seeds. Takes like 5 minutes. There’s not a thing wrong with simple comfort food.

I had just started this audiobook a while back ago, when I got pretty smashed up in a car accident. I totally forgot that I had it. I finished a story podcast last night, so I’ll start this again tonight! Just downloaded it.

(I also don’t work and my kids are grown, so quitting social media may be easier for me than for folks that rely on it for resources.)
February 6, 2026 at 3:04 PM
I quit all social media for several months, and it did wonders for my anxiety and depression. This is the only account I’m coming back to, just to see how it goes.

Hope you are doing better this morning.

If you aren’t crazy about the rice being red, you could rinse and fold the beets in after everything is cooked. It would minimize the staining.

If you do like the red rice, you definitely have the method down! How was it?

That looks hella good!

I like to make the pickled daikon and carrots, but cut them into somewhat thick sticks, so I can just grab a few out of the fridge to snack on.

Right? I was bullied plenty, and my “cutting snarky bitch” is a quite refined. I usually just wait to whip it out until someone begs for it. 😆

I didn’t know that. Busy guy. They went a bit into his early years in the documentary Drunk, Stoned, Brilliant, Dead. Interesting watch if you are a fan of older SNL or Lampoons.

That’s funny, because my husband and I were *just* talking about Spies Like Us a few minutes ago. Fletch is also a good one from that era.

I was relieved when mine were all done with school. I can’t imagine getting that absolute nightmare of a notification.

If they are that stanky, it’s time to ride up and down on a busy elevator.
