Needs to be a long German word for the feeling of FOMO/jealousy of being stuck in car traffic while watching bicyclists enjoy the objectively perfect weather and zip by with the biggest smiles on their faces and wishing i had had my shit together in the morning to ride into town instead

Can’t wait for my kids to grow up so we can have three bullitts too
It’s official! With a 14 year old riding his own bullitt we are a 3 Bullitt household! Never thought this day would arrive but it’s a no brainer for us.

This could be Portland but Oregon just shuts down the freeway without providing any infrastructure to make biking safer in the city center
Is it Amsterdam? Copenhagen?

No, it's Paris!

After years of investment, the French capital has one of the best problems a city can have: bicycle congestion.

So if Paris has done it, why wouldn't other cities follow?

PSA: if you’re a boomer on the eastbank esplanade in Portland riding two abreast and a bike behind you dings their bell a few times warning that you are about to get passed don’t be surprised when you get passed when there is space to pass you. Turn up your hearing aids, leave room for others.

My first week of carmageddon in Portland over, some thoughts, all of which are anecdotal:
1. Southbound traffic on streets near I-5 in N Portland seem heavier than usual.
2. So many people on bikes, which may have more to do with $6 a gallon gas.

The Ed Sheeran affair is a perfect example of how not taking a stand is still taking a stand, and being apolitical means your politics are those of the powerful. I hope the oligarchs award him with another fugly piece unique from Patek so I can make fun of it next time he shows off his collection.

Does anyone in PDX metro area know about resources for family cargo biking in Vancouver WA? I know someone looking for either a trustworthy navigation app for biking that takes into consideration safe routes for kids or a good map. I found Vancouver’s map online but can’t find a hard copy option.

summer 2020 the cops beat up my 64 year old dad walking away from a protest wearing a "friends of trees" hoodie. all this to say i personally have trouble getting worked up over questions of appropriate social media decorum from private citizens contemporaneously responding to cop brutality
Councilor Mitch Green said he regrets the since-deleted tweets. “That's not how I engage in discourse today,” he said.

This could be us but we are too worried about providing on street parking and prioritizing vehicles.
“Currently about 2/3rds of all Dutch children walk or bike to school, with 75% of secondary school kids cycling to school. By enabling safe and active travel, #Dutch cities prevent an estimated one million car journeys to school each morning.” — @modacitylife.bsky.social in book #CurbingTraffic

Does replacing parking with bike-lanes hurt restaurant business? Of course not, as this new peer-reviewed STUDY of 15 years of Montreal data showed. ACTUALLY, downtown experienced significant restaurant growth after bike lanes were installed. @momentummag.bsky.social

Glad to see PBOT filling in potholes on Rodney next to Albina library this morning. As someone who flipped himself off of his bike on that stretch when I hit a deep pothole a couple of years ago, I’m glad they are doing something about it

Really happy that @tinakotek.bsky.social is focused on handing hundreds of millions of dollars to a billionaire while our transit is gutted, our roads fall apart, and our schools continue to fail.
Update from @trimet.org today:

Without additional revenue, TriMet's budget deficit will ultimately force the agency to cut in excess of 33% of its total service by 2030 or 2031.

This is what a 31% service could look like:

If commercial flights or trains killed 7,000 bystanders a year, the entire industry would be halted immediately. Because it's cars, the government just shrugs and lets them build the hoods higher.

New York City’s business elites are long accustomed to direct access to City Hall, where even Democratic mayors felt the need to court the city’s wealthiest and most influential corporate leaders. That access is getting shredded by Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
Mamdani Is Shunning New York Business Leaders Who Are Used to Calling the Shots
The mayor fired corporate leaders from a city fund’s advisory board in the latest sign that he is changing the way such power brokers access City Hall.
