Oljato–Monument Valley is a famous desert region on the Arizona-Utah border within the Navajo Nation. It is known for its towering red sandstones buttes ,wide open landscapes and scenic views .The area has appeared in many films and photographs.

The blame for Navajoland not being given statehood is largely placed on the states of Colorado and Utah who refused to entertain the possibility of ceding land, but I can't help but think the REAL reason would be because it would permanently create two native senators and a native representative.

A neat part of history that they don't teach you: there was a push in the late 1970s to admit the Navajo Nation as the 51st state. The population of Navajoland would've been 150k at the time and now 174k, much smaller than Wyoming, and the capital would've been Window Rock. Interesting read.
