I'm a known Padres hater but watching them dunk on the Cubs was pretty awesome. Holy Sheets was a funny chant and I loved watching PCA freak out over the check swing call 😹

regardless of whether I say /mɜlbn/ or /mɜlbɝn/ people comment on it so no point fretting about it. It's silly but I'm just rocking with /mɜlbn/

I just keep coming back to this fundamental mismatch: Some people think the point is Content, just more Content, endless Content to be mindlessly swiped through and consumed on 2x speed. Rather than art, creation, emotion, and shared humanity.

This deserves all the flak, what a grim prospect. Humans write for humans and read human thought. How do we fight this sedentary thinking?
This is the future of scientific papers.

Instead of a PDF, the paper is an AI agent that you can talk to, ask questions, run analyses.

No more digging through supplements - just ask the paper directly: "what p-value cutoff was used in Fig 3B? Re-run at 0.01."

Thanks to everyone who tuned into the stream tonight, it was a good time. Felt good ending with a hot win streak to actually dig a bit at the elo. Slowly but surely! The short seshes have been good but a long sesh is kinda necessary to get a groove going.

Hitting this to save the game felt so good. I don't play about WA-20, this is serious business.

This concept of generations: boomers, gen X, millennials, gen z, I object so strongly to it now. It's virtually astrology. Tracking trends in age groups is one thing but we need to stop defining people by the arbitrary clump of years in which they were born.

40k deaths in the US and 1.2m globally from car crashes? Invisible.

40% of California GHG emissions, 2/3rds in many cities, caused by private cars? Invisible.

Nope, let's all lash out at e-bikes and bike lanes.

Having notifications turned on for MLB while busy with coursework means I'm invariably flooded with news of home runs from both teams, but when I check scores later the dodgers win 11-5 with 3 homers and the mariners lose 5-4 with 4 😭

Dodgers have yet to win a game since trading for Skubal. Two homers from Ohtani tonight and it wasn't enough to beat the Cubs. Perhaps their luck is running out.

this is not true. there was no conspiracy. it didn't matter whether the streetcars were publicly owned (seattle, detroit) or private (los angeles, atlanta).

a thread (because i wrote a whole-ass book on this):

1/?
Is everyone aware of the General Motors streetcar conspiracy?

In the mid-20th century, auto and oil interests bought up electric streetcar systems across the US and systematically replaced them with bus routes and paved roads, funneling commuters toward private cars.

I recorded and edited a few vlogs about Seattle's light rail about a year ago. The files are lost to time but I'm starting to consider trying again when I reach Melbourne. I wonder if anyone would be interested in seeing in-depth virtual tours of their Metro.

What has happened in Washington DC is no doubt bad, I visited recently and it was not pretty. But I also just don't really care about the reflecting pool or the White House or any symbolic landmarks. People are dying and suffering globally because of this administration. That matters a lot more.
