The camera is below him, so we're looking up at his bloodied face as he stands in front of a bright orange neon sign.

Carrie Hamilton as Wendy from Tokyo Pop (1988). She's dressed as a punk rocker and is sitting at a Japanese room, surrounded by Japanese dolls. There's a Japanese man behind her, watching a small TV. Diamond Yukai as Hiro from Tokyo Pop (1988). He's dressed as a rocker and singing, screaming at a microphone. There's a guitar player behind him, playing a red guitar.

Tokyo Pop, directed and co-written by Fran Rubel Kuzui, is such an astonishing, joyful movie
Absolutely loved it!
Carrie Hamilton and Yutaka Tadokoro/Diamond Yukai, in a scene from the movie Tokyo Pop, from 1988. They’re both sitting at a Tokyo downtown street restaurant and looking, smiling at each other. There are neon and bright lit promo signs behind them. Carrie Hamilton and Yutaka Tadokoro/Diamond Yukai, in a scene from the movie Tokyo Pop, from 1988. Sarah Palmer from Twin Peaks. She’s sitting on a couch in her living room and about to scream. There’s a framed picture of her dead daughter, Laura Palmer, next to her. Behind her, there’s a mirror where we can see Bob, another character in the show.

Put your hands up––if you wanna join the Pink Bonnie Club
Faye Dunaway as Bonnie from the film Bonnie & Clyde – she's leaning on a car and looking to the left at something outside the frame. The colors in the picture were messed up to make everything look purple-pink.

Magritte felt surreal after Bruce Lee kicked him through that wall
Bruce Lee catching a breath during a fight before he starts kicking ass again. Lee is bleeding from his arm from a knife wound that cut through his white shirt. There's an evil dude on the ground – Lee defeated that one already. Behind Lee there's a wooden wall where the exact outline of a person has been drawn and cut out due to Lee having kicked another villain through the wall.

I remember the story about that ghost falling in love with a girl in school, and it’s a wild one
A manga cover for Goodnight Punpun The protagonist (Punpun) is drawn in white like a long, thin bird with a toque or a hat for the cold. Around Punpun there are several people (drawn as people) and they’re painted in orange, blue and purple, unlike Punpun (who stands out). “Goodnight Punpun” is written at the center of the image.

Just finished reading this one – not my favorite Fosse (Septology is still my favorite), and wasn’t as hooked by it as I was by Aliss at the Fire and Morning and Evening (which I found stunning), but still prefer this to A Shining

Finally managed to watch The Hourglass Sanatorium, and I know I’ll probably rewatch it soon
Quite an astonishing film!
Still from the Polish film The Hourglass Sanatorium (1973), directed by Wojciech Has. The protagonist, Józef, a white Jewish man, enters a dilapidated restaurant inside the sanatorium – the tables are covered with dust, there are left over drinks and some old food on some plates, but the colors kind of make them alluring, maybe even appetizing, despite the sort of sick appearance that surrounds everything. The are large windows or doorways behind the restaurant that lead to a cemetery near the woods further in the back of the image. The light in the scene is yellowish green or greenish yellow, or gold green – and that resonates with the overall mix of nostalgia and death/memento mori the scene evokes. There’s a very striking baroque and surreal atmosphere to the picture, which reflects the overall mood of the film.
