I enjoy when they have "their own rules" and get *stranger* the deeper you go. On the third level, there might be a Gargoyle's Spout that flows upwards, etc. to hint that they're "Not in Kansas Anymore."
Figuring out a "Dungeon's Rules" becomes something they can use to their advantage later!

While some purists restrict the "OSR" label to games emulating OD&D and/or Mentzer Basic, others consider anything from the hobby's first decade fair game; thus, having first been published only six years after OD&D, under the broader definition you could technically write an OSR game based on this:

Real pro tip that I realized today: dungeons don't need purpose or history. They can be natural/supernatural phenomena as well. What's really interesting about dungeons is who lives there *now*.
Furthermore, if dungeons are magical, you can experiment with the rules that govern them!

Something that's interesting about the spells in OD&D is that they seem obviously science-fantasy/radiation coded. Lead blocks the use of things like Detect or ESP.
