Neopterin is a neat marker for #cell-mediated #immunity in #primates. We think it has great potential for #ecoimmunology research in wild and captive settings!

Kat is right about all of this.

One of the reasons that college sexual violence is uniquely devastating is because it changes the victim’s entire future.
What about her future? What about how hard she worked to be there? What is to become of her life now? What process of justice could possibly right these wrongs? And how much more will she lose in the process of trying to get it? How much more of this are we all supposed to tolerate?

Sparked by a waste crisis driven by rapid urbanization in the 20th century, the effect of the changes to the country's food waste management since the 1990s has been remarkable: South Korea's food waste recycling rate rose from just 2.6% in 1996 to nearly 97% in 2023 www.bbc.com/future/artic...
New York has a food waste problem. South Korea has already solved it
South Korea has cut household food waste going to landfill from 97% to almost nothing. New York City has started sending its scraps the same way.

This lion sighting was nothing short of a sensation. It's the first lion spotted in Gabon since the 1990s and caught on our PanAf Chimp&See camera trap video. Here's a CNN article about it: edition.cnn.com/2015/04/02/a... . A documentary about the discovery and its consequences is now in the making.

What do we mean by calling an animal "wild"? A zoo tiger? A city fox? A feral cat? Nobody agrees 😅

We asked 358 wildlife experts, and "wild" isn't just one thing 🐾 It isn't just the opposite of "domestic," but exists along a spectrum with multiple dimensions.

Since I've lectured about it in 2 classes over the past couple weeks & have all the slides readily available, allow me to take this opportunity to do a brief educational 🧵 about (some of) the history of scientific racism & eugenics in the US.
Yet again I remind everyone (as Elizabeth does in her very next tweet) that "foreigners are corrupting our pure blood with weakness & disease" is Fascism 101. Not some variant, not some metaphorically similar thing, not some echo -- the thing itself.
RFK Jr. just said that immigration is to blame for the outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases in the U.S., not him.
