I don't know how much longer I can tolerate @bsky.app before deleting it. A few days ago nothing was working. Today I drafted a carefully worded reply to a post on an important topic and it was stuck "processing" for several minutes before losing my comment. Give me one good reason to stay.

I led an AI workshop for A Level students. The teacher backed me up, saying there's no substitute for actually doing the work. Fake citations are an abomination
"don't cite what you haven't read" remains the basic entry level academic responsibility; & if your discpline "doesn't have that as a norm" then sorry, your discipline needs reforming for this new world. Citations are structural parts of trust and knowledge building, not trinkets or optional extras
Academics and technologists are sounding the alarm about a growing crisis in scholarship as we know it: AI-generated citations of nonexistent papers that have infested real journals. Despite being fake, the sources are widely assumed to be authentic the more they appear in published literature.

A Line Held Tight is the kind of game we need more of right now and moving forward.

Britain’s biggest community solar farm forced to shut over grid overload fears.

UK electricity privatised in 1990. National Grid paid £28bn in dividends since 1990.

Still poor transmission and storage infrastructure.

Yet record high prices and profiteering.

Does anyone call companies to account?

Very bad idea
ITV agrees sale of media and entertainment business to Sky for up to £1.6bn, awaits regulatory approval.

Bad idea to let conglomerates own multiple TV stations.

Expect job cuts, more repeats, cancellation of shows, fewer independent progs.

How long before free-to-air TV vanishes?

Talks were first revealed last November aimed at a deal to create a UK and streaming-focussed challenger to big US rivals including Netflix.

HSBC becomes first UK bank to quit industry’s net zero alliance.

Banks take bailouts, subsidies, sell dodgy financial products, launder money and abuse taxes, but never accept social responsibility.

Voluntarism is a fig leaf. Change law. Impose public duties.
