Back in the day I worked at a Margaritaville. When there were FOUR total. They made everything in house except for something stupid like thousand island dressing. Anyway. Tuna steak sandwich with a remoulade. So good. Black bean soup. Same. I can make the soup but haven’t had the sandwich in years.
Since we're talking about veggie burgers I'll say that the best veggie burger I ever had was in the Toronto airport at what I think was a Molson restaurant? Basic burgers and fries kinds of things but they had an absolutely incredible homemade veggie burger in the most unlikely place.

What a great thread. Well done to the workers.

It can be done y’all.

Thank you. I learned something and didn’t want to throw anything at the end.
This Day in Labor History: September 13, 1990. The mostly Black workforce at Delta Pride Catfish in Indianola, Mississippi walked off the job in revolt over the working conditions they faced. Let's talk about this key moment of civil rights unionism against a racist employer!

This! Parts of parenting suck. The endless cleaning. The preparing of food (and the 20 tasks you need to do BEFORE you can even prepare anything). But trip planning? The fun stuff? So fun.
We did Disney World when my kids were little and planning the trip was basically cocaine to me for months on end these people are offloading all the best parts of parenting to a calculator that can't do arithmetic but will tell their kids to kill themselves

This is so true. And it sucks.
The value of Graham Platner is that right up until all his red flags came toppling down upon him is that he is the most naked example of the amount of grace & credibility Simply Being White grants you. Compared to Abdul El-Sayed, who has to re-earn every ounce of credibility he has on a daily basis.

@mbta.com Free Fridays on the Commuter Rail were awesome. We only made it once but would love to do it again in the future.

Massachusetts has a Landlord & Tenant Rights Guide.

A few things every renter and landlord should know:

• No application fees
• No "hold" deposits
• Only a court can evict a tenant

Know your rights.

Library museum passes are getting less bang for their buck. Is this a trend outside MA?

Eg: Museum of Fine Arts USED to be free for under 17 all the time. The museum passes gave 2 free adults. Now under 7 are free. Under 17 are $10 and the passes admit for $10 or $15

Serious Eats told me that mortar and pestle pesto is superior to food processor pesto. Being that type of person, I thought “I’ll do it once. How much better can it be?”

Ppfffftttttt.

Indescribably better. And a marble pestle is $$$$ so I am using a molcajete. So. Much. Work. I cannot go back.

My dishwasher:

Auto: 2:05

Heavy duty: 3:28 (fine. Could be 3:30 but whatever)

Normal: 2:05

ONE HOUR: 2:05 ?!?!?!?!?!?!? I fail to see the point why does this even exist as an option?

Rinse: 0:16

There is a band called Yarn and they evidently have a music festival called Yarnival. Mildly disappointed it is not a knitting and music festival. I would 100% knit while watching Hayley Jane. (Also if it were closer. VA feels kinda far for not fiber arts and music.

Do not disturb is set on my phone between 10p and 6a. Randomly it will turn on at other times or not turn off at 6.

Starting to believe there could be little creatures doing the work in there and they forgot, a la Pratchett Discworld Cinema.

What else explains occasional, automated, glitch?

Yesterday I chased down the details of a MAGA attack about El-Sayed’s oversight of animal control in Detroit

Found a former official who was actually there

The attack—which is all over social media—looks like total nonsense

When we talk about "civil rights," it's important to keep in mind that the right of women and girls to access the public sphere without being subjected to sexual violence or harassment is usually considered less important than the free speech rights of men to harass them.

Here are some of the comparisons:

Allergies, menstruation, covid, perimenopause?????

The worst game. Just shit.

Also: is the world a completely awful, irredeemable place or am I getting my period? For the months I don’t feel physically ill.
The ladyfolk of a certain age will understand this one: for the past two days I've been having a fun round of "am I sick, or is this perimenopause" and I'm still not sure.

I knew this (most of it) and read it all anyway. Clear, concise, interesting and maybe you’ll learn something.
Not that this goes to the deeper issues people are discussing. But the Thanksgiving Holiday has basically nothing to do with the Pilgrims or anything to do with settlers or later white Americans interactions with American Indians. The holiday didn't start with the Pilgrims. The modern day ...
