haven't checked all the references but her date of birth seems to vary depending on the case study age "needed" to be relevant to the story. In some she's nearly 80 then in a later piece she's 75 so presumably born around 1950. All very odd and disreputable

Shocking. See also the exploits of the Chinese asset strippers buying up private schools to close them down and cash in on the property. What the hell have we done to education?

I fondly remember when University of London degrees granted by Polytechnics were thought to be not as good as degrees from "real" universities. This tale takes farming the teaching and admin of degree granters to a whole new level

I obvs got the bowdlerised version. I don't have any recollection of any saucy stuff! Mind you, we never "got" any of the jokes in Shakespeare as they were cut out in our school edition or "explained" by our English teacher in some sort of spurious way

I am absolutely livid with this woman. What a disgrace she is.

She's missed a trick not claiming appearance fees. Or she's fibbing about being hard up 😂

Who'd a-thunk identical slop about idyllic villages only two hours from Manchester, traffic jams on the M6 and Coronation Street plots plastered uniformly across a zillion supposedly "local" titles wouldn't attract readers 🙄

Golly, that is a rare move

The dinner ladies at the old Times canteen used to call that particular veg mango-touts. Still call them that in our house

@municipaldreams.bsky.social good on this. Social housing designed for "society" including doctors and teachers, business owners, to live alongside their "clients", rather than today's model of ghettoes for the poor

Love the way southern people similarly argue "we can't have more [whatever] in the north because how could southern people get there to partake in it ?" while not bothering how northern people are supposed to / or indeed manage to partake in [whatever] if it's all in the south.

Not least because they'd get sacked when they turn 25? Like used to happen with older workers entitled to bigger company pension contributions when they turned 50 because they became too expensive

But ... but ... it would be a good excuse to revive HS2 (properpy)

Putting former Barclays bankers in charge of financial regulators usually ends in disaster.

Worth remembering the role of ex Barclays investment banker Sir Callum McCarthy, a man who didn't actually believe in financial regulation, as chair of the FSA from September 2003 to September 2008.
