For some reason I got a free cookie and cupcake from the lady working at Susie Cakes yesterday, and I have no idea why except that maybe she liked my enthusiasm about cakes? I thanked her of course.

My friend and I were talking a stroll though a local park that also has a 4H farm. It's hard to tell, but this old barn has a bee hive in it. If you zoom in, you can see the bees coming out just to the top right of a bush.

A friend asked me to do a patriotic guinea pig photo shoot. I admit it is very dorky. The guinea pig, Olaf, was a good sport about the whole thing, and yes, I made the guinea pig sized Uncle Sam hat for this event

Random guinea pig channelling my enthusiasm for the 250th anniversary of the birth of our nation right now. It is so different from how I felt in 1976, when everyone was all excited about it and we were painting fire hydrants red white and blue and to look like revolutionary war heroes.

I found these Portuguese custard tarts at a farmers market the other day! Pastéis de Nata is what they are called. It's been a couple of years since I was there, but they are flakey, delicious, and not too sweet.

This whole thing reminds me of the time it took me five years to get a hernia fixed because the doctors kept saying it was just a lump of fat and also it wasn’t that bad and I would get a scar. Can Congress please do their job?
