Roasted a nice chicken with thick strips of guanciale tonight. The benefit of buying guanciale in one lump is that I can cut very thick strips which don't wither away in the oven.

I sometimes think the more intelligent someone is, the more stupid they become. As Fry says, "Can't be trusted to sit the right way on a toilet." The biggest threat AI poses is how humans use it. For everything else, there is the power switch.

Google's response to my complaint about an ad that was advertising a 30tb ssd for $49. This is a very common scam. If you are lucky, you receive a drive that has 100gb space and a hacked control chip. About time someone investigated Google's support for scammers. @zsk.bsky.social @thetimes.com

Here's a thought about AI.
AI has become the new trendy thing to hate. To such an extent that if someone dares to do something with it, they get attacked and bullied.
But the real problem with AI is NOT that someone can use it to ghost write their book. Here is a little thread.

I was just remembering back to the 1990s when I used to make ads for CD compilation companies who would tell via phone numbers, quoting a minimum of 28 days for delivery!

#writingtip Writing with a font size of 14 rather than 11 or 12, keeps me better focussed and more likely to see errors.

Bluesky just blew a fuse I think. I logged in to be told I had a huge amount of notifications. When I looked, it was all the notifications I have ever had. In fact, the only new one was one like. Daft machines!

These are meant for asylum seekers. But I can think of plenty already in the UK, especially those of "White Anglo Saxon" descent who could do with these lessons rammed down their throats.

The real reason that news outlets like the BBC feel they must fact check everything is that the public has become TOO STUPID to work it out for themselves.
It is a mad world where we now blame news outlets for the lies told by politicians. Are unable to separate the story from the messenger.

I know the Jack Ryan series was meant to be good, and it certainly had plenty of excitement, but I get BORED of characters who have so little self control that they would have been sacked by their agency, even prosecuted. Not allowed back for another go! Hawaii Five O is another one.

...But some young people have told the BBC the experience of applying for hundreds of jobs and never hearing back is "robotic and brutal".
This is not unique to the internet. To get my first job in the 70s, I also wrote hundreds of letters, many who didn't reply.

Set up my first NAS today using a UGREEN NAS enclosure. I know this is silly, but I was seriously impressed by how beautifully engineered the product is, including the packaging! When Chinese manufacturers go for it, the results are spectacular. Let's hope it works as well as it is made.
