It’s a strange thing to me (not an economist) that great wealth is measured in abstract stock values but we speak about it in the same terms as money in the bank or a vault filled with gold. Originally, to acquire units of currency, they had to come from somewhere. Today they emerge from thin air.

I grew up hearing all of that “mankind will eventually colonize the stars” stuff but it was never framed as billionaire hucksters fleeing the planet they’ve squeezed dry to live in habitats on lifeless space rocks.
That the tech press spent so much time fluffing this smooth brained huckster when he came on the scene is how you know his whole plan was to find some useful idiots to build his image from the ground up.
