I truly believe that it was an election where people wanted to go back to before COVID and had a vague sense that Trump was president before COVID because nobody seems to remember that he was actually president during COVID.
So many vibe shift/realignment interpretations of the 2024 election have aged like cottage cheese.
I believe the correct interpretation is that it was an election result driven by national conditions/retrospective voting.

What baffles me about this "we need to deny Dems to show them" is that that is the exact logic we need to apply to Republicans! We need to make their politics toxic for multiple cycles in a row. Losing Texas/Nebraska/Iowa would be a good start!

Nobody thinks Dems should be free from criticism for tacking right on this or any other issue. And I’m very sympathetic to people who feel horrified at being asked to vote for a candidate who has used them as a target for triangulation. It’s the specific claim “the Dem should lose” that’s a problem.
