LittleKid turned four yesterday, and we had an good day. African Lion Safari in the morning with lunch there (for the second year in a row), then pizza for dinner (his choice!), strawberry chocolate cake, and presents. He starts school next week. 🥹

My beleaguered neighbor gave us about five pounds of farmers-market strawberries before going out of town for the week because she didn't want them to go bad while she was gone. Strawberry season is in full swing here, and it shows in this lot. I made a strawberry tart.

When Louisiana v callais came down, I did wonder if, at some point, the Rs would be stupidly blatant enough about their intent to reduce Black voting power that they wouldn't be able to hide behind the skirts of that case. I wasn't expecting that to happen so soon. open.substack.com/pub/statusku...

@aureanator.bsky.social and I went to this last night (belated anniversary outing), and it was definitely a good time. Col Hadfield is an engaging public speaker with fascinating things to talk about, and he even broke out his guitar at the end! Do recommend.

i was explaining to @aureanator.bsky.social what was going on with alberta's separation referendum question, and maybe i'm overly influenced by @chebert18.bsky.social's sardonic pragmatism on this issue, but the more i explained, the more ridiculous the whole thing sounded.

The pre-teen girls next door have adopted LittleKid as a playmate. LittleKid doesn't have much experience playing with older kids, so he's a little confused, but he's happy to be included. The way the girls are working with him is absolutely adorable.

What is it about Trump's administration that attracts so many people with alcohol problems? There's clearly some common thread of brokenness that these people use alcohol to cope with, and I feel like that'll be the subject of someone's dissertation one day.

Something about me as a parent? No matter how early my kid's bedtime is, I always manage to run out of patience an hour beforehand. Without fail.
