The ability to pour hundreds of millions of pounds into a loss-making TV channel, bent on wrenching British politics sharply to the right, is yet another of the ways in which extreme wealth is trying to remake UK democracy.

It needs to be part of any serious conversation about political funding.

Truly vile.

At a public event, Mike Graham mocked Andy Burnham’s father for having Alzheimer’s, less than three weeks after Roy Burnham died and apparently on the day of his funeral.

Just the lowest of the low.

I’ve never seen a BBC correspondent try to build such a huge mountain out of such a tiny molehill. Chris Mason’s hysterical quest to undermine Andy Burnham, based on a few noncommittal words:

Chris Mason: Why Andy Burnham's about-turn on Manchester City matters
The prime minister's comments on Man City were revealing on several levels - and leapt on by many in football, the BBC's political editor writes.

We need to start the debate on the EU now.
Polls have consistently show a majority against Brexit and all research and analysis confirms the harm it is doing to us and our country.

Put simply, I would argue that the most urgent task is to start the process of rejoining the EU.
We desperately need that boost to the economy to be able to afford to do all the other stuff.
Let’s Get on with it.

Brexit robbed them of countless opportunities. Restoring our EU membership is the easiest way to help our young people.

Don't normally come over naively idealistic and pro-European. It's just that sometimes pointing to polls showing Brits' understandable hesitancy/opposition toward joining the single currency and Schengen means there's no point even trying to persuade them to (re)join the EU just gets my goat.
You either bow down to the assumption that voters’ preferences are fixed or at least exogenous. Or you decide that they’re malleable and endogenous - and so prepare to make a political argument. Better, perhaps, to risk dying on your feet than live on your knees.
On rejoining the EU

Support: 55%
Oppose: 34%
