as a girl with a PhD in natural language processing and machine learning it's actually offensive to me when you say "we don't know how LLMs work so they might be conscious"

I didn't spend 10 years in mines of academia to be told ignorance is morally equal knowledge.

We know exactly how LLMs work.

Two years into a genocide and people are still asking others to condemn Hamas, demanding to know whether Israel as a right to exist, and denying the war crimes we've been watching as they livestream them.

If by now you question whether it's a genocide at all, you don't deserve to be a part of the conversation anymore.

I swear this is not just because I’m the father of a five year old girl but the k-pop demon hunters soundtrack has got to be the pop record of the year, right? it’s like, weaponized pop production. violating the nuclear non-proliferation treaty pop production

stewart lee did a great article about understanding german humour and how heavily biased it is towards absurdism. "did you hear about the man with an orange for a head" is by far the best success I've ever had with a joke in germany
Pudding mit Gabel has been my FYP for like a month. They’re gathering in groups of thousands. People are showing up with meter long telescoping forks and tuning forks. Oh so you don’t think Germans are funny? Ok well you are correct. Don’t even act like they’re not eating pudding with forks though

I also think part of the problem is we're taught the telegenic shit but not how it's in service to larger political or economic gains. Like we don't really talk about how the Montgomery Bus Boycott was specifically about forcing the bus company to choose btwn integration or bankruptcy

I'm not talking about US politicians I'm talking about normal people.

I see people fighting back and organizing every fucking day. ICE hasn't met their recruitment goals. They haven't met their kidnapping goals. That's WHY they keep escalating.

obviously the "mastodon is merely one network in the fediverse" people are the "linux is just the kernel" analogue
"the linux of social media" is perfect. the most insufferable people on mastodon are people who do nothing but tell you, a person using mastodon, that you should be using mastodon

I know the world's on fire, but you can’t think about that every minute. Check out this YouTube channel. Macy tries out random jobs and documents what they involve, including the finances for some businesses. In this one she spends a day at United's flight attendant school.
