Truly overwhelming to be read so perceptively and so generously
States of Emergency “is a masterfully digressive story that moves across perspectives, time zones and time periods. @chrisknapp.bsky.social’s narrator is a flâneur with push notifications.” — Hilary Leichter!
Book Review: ‘States of Emergency,’ by Chris Knapp
In his novel “States of Emergency,” Chris Knapp doesn’t just tighten the distance between our inner lives and the world around us; he erases it.

Sen. Chris Murphy: "Donald Trump has lost this war. America is weaker, Iran is stronger, the price to reopen the strait increases by the day, the supposed 'deal' that's on the table right now would pay Iran $100 billion a year in order to reopen the strait ... what a victory for Iran."

what next? what, are we gonna provide *roads* for the wealthy too? gonna have health inspectors keep contaminants out of their groceries? are we just gonna have gutters and sewer systems around rich people's homes?
Boy, what a terrible headline.

We *need* the wealthy to participate in public services. If only poor people ride the bus, then rich people won't wield their power in support of public transit or, worse, will wield their power *against* it.
