The Agora Museum occupies the reconstructed Stoa of Attalos, built 150 BCE as a royal gift and commercial centre. Burned in 267 CE, it was rebuilt in 1953–56 to house finds from the Agora excavations. Entry is included with the Agora ticket.

An advantage of interning at the CIG is the opportunity to explore more of Europe while based in Athens.

In June, our intern Nicole visited Vienna, where she toured the UN headquarters, sampled local delicacies, and explored the city's history, art, and architecture.

The Byzantine and Christian Museum in Athens was established in 1914 for the preservation of Greece’s Byzantine and Post-Byzantine heritage.

Today, it houses over 25,000 artifacts spanning from the 3rd century AD to the 20th century AD.

After ascending the Acropolis and circling the Parthenon, one is met with the marble figures of the Erechtheion‘s five remaining Caryatids (or Korai). These are not the original Caryatids, as those are housed in the Acropolis Museum. However, they hold the same symbolic weight.

The Parthenon, dedicated to Athena, at the Acropolis, has miraculously withstood time for almost 2,500 years; its Doric architecture has survived multiple conflicts that resulted in it being blown up, looted, and reconstructed into different religious temples.

The Lyceum—unearthed in 1996—was a place of philosophical discussion for Protagoras, Socrates, and Aristotle. It and the nearby Ilissos river are the setting for Plato’s dialogues on friendship (“Lysis”) and ascensive manic love (“Phaedrus”).
