The demographic cliff is such a problematic term.
It’s actually only - a 13-15% decline in college student populations over a fifteen year period (to 2041) — so less than 1% a year.
It excuses a lot of administrative poor decisions.

A looming 'demographic cliff': Fewer college students and ultimately fewer graduates
The long-predicted downturn in the number of 18-year-olds is almost here. And it isn't just a problem for higher education. It's a looming crisis for the economy.

NEW: In March the White House released an FY27 budget request that zeroed out the National Science Foundation's directorate of Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences (SBE). For months it was unclear what would happen. Now, with FY26 over, the damage to SBE is coming to light.

This morning in Danbury, ICE was arresting parents at school bus stops.

But it’s more sinister. ICE waited until the kids were on the bus so when they are dropped off at the end of the day, they are alone, scared to death they can’t find their parents.

I’m heading to Danbury.

My hot take is we should listen to constitutional scholars and lawyers way, way less, and listen to comparative political scientists a lot more.
One of the bleakest things about American politics is that we're reflexively anti expert on issues that truly have right and wrong answers, but are slavishly obsequious to experts in "the law and the constitution" despite that field being completely made up and fake.
