The textbook fingerprint of El Niño is now visible in last month's sea surface temperature anomalies. El Niño is not a storm, but a natural pattern of climate variability. This redistribution of heat can influence weather worldwide, but is still hard to clearly disentangle.

When you’re displaying data from a bunch of personal weather stations with no control over how they are installed, you have no idea what the “real” or “right” values are.

Wednesday El Niño update - it continues to develop as expected, and its imprint on the large-scale atmospheric circulation is showing up more clearly. For this week, I also want to reiterate the importance of avoiding the El Niño hype (& 'scary' AI-graphics) and finding trustworthy sources of info.
