The Force Awakens third act is basically New Hope acts 2 & 3 smooshed together. So it figures it would collapse in on itself

FURTHERMORE, people who buy and read a book with the National Book Award nominee sticker on it, besides wanting to read a good book, are exactly the crowd who also want to look/feel/be cosmopolitan, so you can't even really argue that it isn't a savvy strategy to nominate a diverse list

Curious to claim that elevating this kind of "political" literature is making reading less popular

Like, a) reading has never been the hobby of the popular kids. But also b) a big current book influencer who loves exactly this kind of book is Dua Lipa, so...

I'm sure the contrast it part of the idea, but not sure how Rock n' Roll is gonna mesh with the 1900s England setting

Also, I just watched the new Supergirl, and much as I love a good needle drop, I'm getting kind of worn out on them

To wit, in several of the mentions I've seen of this movie since Parton's passing, the word "Whorehouse" is censored, presumably to avoid suppression by the algorithm

Haven't we basically already had an Alicent Hightower regency? Which **checks notes** led directly to the Dance of the Dragons???

Male authors don't innately sell better than female ones, but when they hit their audience, their audience is EVERYONE, while even the best selling female authors have trouble breaking into a male audience.

Lestat actually kinda nails unironically what this dynamic is in "Big Boss":

Armand is a theatre kid.

True, but my point isn't really about anticipation. People know Project Hail Mary and The Idea of You. They may soon know about Yesteryear starring Anne Hathaway or The Correspondent with Jane Fonda. Fantasy books don't generally get the same level of uptake buoyed by screen adaptation

Reading the books after watching the show, I was so surprised by how gaudy the Westeros Martin wrote actually is. Everyone's armor is dyed f#@king outrageous colors!

Like, does the general public know that one of the most anticipated recent fantasy books was Katabasis?

I wonder if part of this dynamic is that books get mainstreamed through movie/TV adaptations, and for adult fantasy that's almost completely restricted to Tolkien and GRRM. Not sure the mainstream has a strong sense of what's been going on in fantasy beyond that, romantasy, and YA.
