CRC offers training, resources, and community to help build resilience and revolutionize how humans live so that all beings have an opportunity to survive and thrive.
We’re lucky to have an espalied apple tree on the side of our home, and this year the apple harvest is smaller, but the apples are HUGE! We’ve been busy making applesauce the last couple of weeks to freeze for the winter and spring.

Given increasing economic & ecological hardships, the likelihood of food shortages is growing. What if you had to live off only what you have at home? How long could you last? (Include furry family members.)

Get a baseline & create a plan to expand your stores as resources allow.

Recently a new follower asked us what kids of preparations they should be considering. We always advise starting out with some reflection questions, including looking at potential local threats and resources in your area. Consider questions such as these.

What questions would you add?

This year we bought 50 pounds of “blemished” fruit (mostly apples & pears) at a big discount from a local orchard. With the first 25 pounds we’ve been making apple & pear sauce, and a pear crumble. These are the kinds of community resources we all should be take advantage of, whenever possible.

We’re fed the lie that we don't need to worry about surveillance if we've done nothing wrong. Even proof of innocence can be twisted. YK Hong says, “Acting like you’re under surveillance will improve your chances of fighting it.” We must limit government/corporate access to who we are/what we do.

Recently, our local grocery store had organic peanut butter on sale for a month, so we were able to buy a couple of extra jars each week to add to our stock. Especially with food prices skyrocketing, taking advantage of sales on what you need most is a key collapse resilience strategy.

We like to experiment w/ food growing. A few years ago we got grape starts off a buy nothing group & plopped them into 5-gallon buckets to see what would happen. This year one of the vines produced some lovely, delicious grapes! What food-growing experiments of yours have had interesting results?

We keep hearing that personal actions don’t matter, but that’s not true.

Not only do our daily choices impact people, animals, and the planet in helpful or harmful ways, but our actions also inspire others.

When have your actions toward a better world positively inspired others?

When’s the last time you went through your go bags? Recently, we downgraded to lighter bags (40L) & diversified the contents so that they’re more adaptable. We’ve also marked our calendars to inventory them (& replace the food) twice a year. What's preventing you from updating (or starting) yours?

Is there such a thing as being overprepared? 🤣

Show us what you might have just a bit too much of in your fridge! (Make sure it's vegan-friendly!)

We can’t buy our way out of collapse. ✋🐾🌍💚

As collapse effects amplify, many resources will become scarcer & more expensive. Now is an ideal time to practice using less: water, energy, household/personal products & anything safely reducible. Besides preparing us for harder times, it saves money & lessens harm to people, animals & the planet.

We’ve started a fun tradition w/ our neighbors. When they first gifted us delicious homemade bread, we sent them a thank you pic of us stuffing it in our faces. When we gifted them some treats, they did the same! Sharing food is a terrific way to build community, generosity & even food security.

It's difficult to accept the hard truth that not only must we completely transform how humans live on Earth, but we can’t look to legislators to lead us or smooth the path. We’ve been tricked into living in ways that harm people, animals & the planet, and now we must build a better way.

If you haven’t yet experimented with Soy Curls, you’re missing out! They're a versatile plant-based powerhouse made from whole soybeans. We use them regularly in curries, stir-fries, casseroles & more. We also buy them in bulk as part of our food security plan. What’s your favorite way to use them?

Our entire summer broccoli crop!🤣🤣

Not every growing season will be a wild success, but we learn more and more every year.

What did you (try to) grow this year that made you laugh, cry, or roll your eyes?

Many of us hate data centers. YK Hong reminds us that every time we use digital space—for photos, for videos, for files—we’re using up more land, water & life. And they encourage us to rethink our digital data and to declutter our digital lives.

Every summer we buy berries from a local grower & freeze them. This fall we’re getting 50 pounds of discount fruit that we’ll freeze, along with freezing batches of applesauce from our apple tree. Don’t miss out on opportunities to stock up on healthy fruit you can use all year long!

We know that growing more of our own food is an important collapse resilience strategy, but growing veganically is an essential method for feeding ourselves in harmony w/ our ecosystems & animal neighbors. This book offers important tips & insights for growing & preserving fruits, veggies & more.

Collapse isn’t some event that will happen far-off in the future or to people in some distant country. All of us are feeling the impacts of collapse. But it’s not too late for all of us—individually & collectively—to do what we can to transform how we live & create a better world despite collapse.

Ebola's fatality rate is over 44%. Measles in the US is at a 35-year high. COVID & whooping cough are increasing. And on & on. Masking is a fundamental personal & public health tool that all of us should be consistently using. Masks save lives. If you’re not masking, what are your stumbling blocks?
