The president’s threat to halt trade with countries with which we have a trade deficit is self-defeating, stupid, and a non sequitur. But it’s also serious.

Self defeating because countries with trade deficits recycle dollars into treasuries and reduce US interest rates.

The President has decided that in order to make ground beef cheaper, he will cut tariffs on ground beef. And I'm wondering if he could generalize from this one product to other products, and perhaps concede that tariffs raise prices on American consumers.

Here's why this is so grim.

Folks expected jobs growth to slow to +80k, but we got -23k. Also downward revisions to the last two months subtracted a total of -103k.

So over the past three months, the US economy created about -200k fewer jobs than we had thought.

Trump could pursue tariffs through Congress.⁣

Instead, the administration has sought authority to impose them directly.⁣

The courts have blocked two versions of that strategy. Yet we're already on version three.⁣

Latest Fed decision: No changes, no surprises.

Bigger news: Kevin takes actions; Kevin doesn't explain. Surely the briefest statement in decades.

The kicker, "The committee will deliver price stability," reads like an affirmation of masculinity at a mens retreat.

Decided to pull out an important part of the interview.

Generative AI is often justified with comparisons to the cost of Amazon Web Services ($57bn) or Uber's ($32bn) in losses, when its costs and losses are hundreds of billions of dollars worse.

And there's no post-bubble redemption story.

This was Paul Farmer's last book before his untimely death. It paints the picture of how neglect, violence, and greed set the stage for the most devastating #Ebola outbreak in history. It deeply moved me and made more committed to making justice central to my work. Now is a great time to read it.

Here's #SCOTUS summarily reversing the three-judge district court's ruling in the Texas redistricting case *because* of its "interim" grant of emergency relief back in December.

That's not surprising, of course. But it's yet another data point for why calling it the "interim" docket is misleading.
