So pleased to see my piece published! Based on my PhD thesis, my article looks at two Irish poets who have resisted translation in differing ways…

Thank you so much to @wasafirimag.bsky.social for this opportunity!
Irish translator and scholar @ellenfcorbett.bsky.social explores how some Irish writers have resisted or deferred the translation of their work into English — given the minoritisation of the Irish language and its 'definitely endangered' status.

Brexit was stupid but surely it is just another symptom rather than a cause: there is a childishness born of empire that refuses responsibility and seeks to externalize blame.
nobody in British politics seems to want to say it but the single biggest driver of their inability to keep a prime minister for any length of time is that Brexit was stupid and ruinous and made everyone’s lives worse

the tragic thing is that it's really only the top twenty or thirty dads who make real money out of it, you can be the hundredth best dad in the world and you're mostly working as a dad coach.
tired of the "#1 dad" nonsense. if you're a dad, stop treating it like a joke and post your actual national dad ranking. i'm # 492,018, which is actually really high up there, but more importantly it lets me enter ranked dad lobbies where i can get matched up for fistfights with dads of my caliber

You really can’t overstate the significance of this diagram in understanding the U.K.’s political paroxysm.

Also, having understood it, you are now better informed than every U.K. politician and media outlet.

Check out the very detailed write up explaining how it was created.

Anybody questioning spends on active travel infrastructure should also be questioning every cent 'wasted' on car infrastructure. How much is spent on car parking by state bodies on a daily basis?

€127k bike shed at Kerry hospital a 'pure waste' - SF
The building of a bicycle shed at University Hospital Kerry, which cost €127,000, is a "pure waste" and another slap in the face to families who are at breaking point, the Dáil has heard.

Today many in this country are being asked to answer, in secret, the question "are you an asshole?"; some people say we should think of the elections as a referendum on Starmer, I am thinking of it as a referendum on national-assholery. Another one.

Desmond Morris was very important to me because he wrote about gay people in his book The Naked Ape and it was the first time I'd ever read or heard a description of gay people that wasn't sneering or judgemental. It was thrilling.
About 40 years later I had a chance to tell him so.
RIP Mr Morris
Let us salute the rogue genius of Desmond Morris, ape-watcher and last of the Surrealists, gone at 98. Here he is, less than 2 years ago, with his Man Ray tribute work - the photographic lips are those of Diana Dors, whom he dated in the 40s when she was still Diana Fluck.
