Manatees control their buoyancy by farting. Manatees have terrible breath, but their farts are even worse. It's like rotten eggs and sulfur, with a side of smelly fish. When there's no wind you can smell them above water from a distance.

When you weigh 500 lbs and walk on legs that look like stilts, it's no small thing to lie down. As this elk was kind enough to do right in front of our trail camera. Look at those antlers!

Manatees have sensitive tactile hairs that cover their body. They connect to a nerve network & detect things underwater. This gives the manatee a view of its surroundings similar to a dolphin's sonar, but using a different process.

it's world suicide prevention day.

My dog saved my life in 2018. I was in a really dark place & the only thing that kept me from making an actual plan was the realization that my dog loved me more than anyone else and he would never understand if Mama never came home.

I couldn't do that to him.

A study of 177 large mammals (weighing more than 10 kilograms) that went extinct between 1,000 and 132,000 years ago concludes that humans, not changes in climate, may have been the main factor in driving the animals over the brink.

Humans have long history with causing extinctions
Data suggests major die-offs of large animals during the last Ice Age were linked to people, not climate.

Belugas are one of the most social animals in the ocean. They live in tight family pods, communicate through a wide range of clicks and whistles, and have facial muscles flexible enough to produce something close to a human smile.
