An incredible deep-dive must-read for California! The ECMWF ensemble says most coastal CA locations have ~10-20% risk of a record-wet winter. King tides will be >1-2' above normal, and a strong storm during the king tides could "produce widespread damaging, and probably historic, coastal flooding."

An Irish Atlantic Rainforest will be screening again in Cork next week.

FYI, the film is *very* different to the tv version on RTÉ Player: much more immersive and meditative...

You really feel like you've been transported into the rainforest.

More fire, more crime, more death and a globally important ecosystem driven ever more rapidly towards a point of no return. That’s the prospect for the Amazon rainforest if Flávio Bolsonaro wins Brazil’s election

My take

Would someone here tell me how this statement from me legitimises racism ?

I’ve left out the name of the man who made the initial comment. I have no problem with him or what he said.

But someone here has been trying for two days now to get me to confess to the racist content of my reply ~

Late morning in Kyiv after the overnight attack.

Soon, I’m going to my workout.
As usual on Wednesdays.

Perhaps you’ve read about the casualties and damage. Not only in Kyiv. I hope you have.

I don’t open the windows. The city is covered in smoke.

Something unusual is happening in Kyiv.
Calm.
Since last night.
It’s 4 pm.

This calm feels like a spider’s web.
Delicate. Fragile.
May the spider keep doing its job.

There aren't many days when you can kayak off Start Point, renowned for one of Britain's most dangerous tidal races. But yesterday the stars aligned, so I bunked off work. Delighted to see Rupert Kirkwood (the Lone Kayaker) out there. He took this picture of me +1. Before you ask: yes, it's real. 🧵

Turned out to be fake.

The bigger fact remains current developments in chip design, cooling systems & software will make such behemoth data centres obsolete before they’re built.

There’s no invention created by human intelligence that can’t be shittified by human stupidity.

AI is watching us.
Know anything about this @irishrainforest.bsky.social ?

Just posted on Facebook by Neil De Grasse Tyson. He claims it’s air cooled, powered by wind & solar and is being offset by a lot of tree planting & ecological restoration

Fishing some 5,300 years ago: a Neolithic fishhook made of a wild boar tusk, wrapped with a fishing line. The size of the fishhook is 6.5 cm. It was used to catch pikes. Found in the lake-dwelling settlement of Arbon Bleiche 3, Switzerland.

The central one caught my eye.

The museum forgot to add the year. Petro is a contemporary artist, so I guess it’s quite recent.

The Laetoli Footprints were found #OnThisDay in 1978. The incredible discovery happened because team members were hurling elephant dung at each other. Australopithecines probably left these trace fossils behind 3.6 million years ago. 🏺🧪

Good work from @eciu.net on the double-whammy that is possibly UK lowest harvest on record followed by record El Nino. UK media so far I think more focused on El Nino impacts on UK storms - I guess the food price story will grow as impacts appear.
