Game Gear had some genuinely cool stuff on it, and Tails' Adventure might be the best game on the system. It's a very fun and charming little title. I think this was also the first time Sega presented Tails as an inventor/tech prodigy. Well worth all the AAs I burnt out as a kid.
Sega made an honest-to-god Tails Metroidvania for Game Gear in 1995 and honestly I love it. You find gadgets and change your loadout to solve open-ended levels.
It's short and unpolished as hell but is such a fun little trip and a great direction for the character.

Just now learning Sunao Katabuchi, director of Princess Arete, In This Corner of the World, etc wrote the stories for Ace Combat 5, 7 and 8. Such random credits. Was already a little jarring knowing he did the series comp and direction for all the Black Lagoon anime, but now ACE COMBAT too???
