Knowing THAT… is not the same thing as knowing HOW… or knowing WHAT IT’S LIKE to find the right thing salient and relevant.

There are different kinds of knowing.

The very processes that you have to use in order to be adaptively intelligent, are also making you inevitably prone to self-deception and bias.

Wisdom is NOT OPTIONAL for this reason.

You either explicitly and rigorously pursue it, or you implicitly and haphazardly pursue it.

What is the “No Free-Lunch” Theorem? When I use heuristics to search the search space it improves my performance in a sort of normal distribution, but it also degrades my performance in an equal manner.

This applies to ALL heuristics.

The Frame Problem refers to the cognitive challenge of determining which aspects of a situation are relevant when making a decision.

If I’m guaranteed to find a solution, then I need to search most of it, sometimes all of it. Logic and Math are algorithmic, therefore Rationality can’t be the same as merely being “mathematical” or “logical”, can it?

What is an Algorithm? A problem-solving method which is guaranteed to find a solution or prove that a solution is impossible.

What is a Heuristic? A problem-solving method that increases your chances of finding a problem solution.

The search space has more paths than there are atoms in the universe. This is combinatorially explosive number of pathways! So, how do we search the search space?

Answer: Heuristics, and Algorithms.

Darwin’s ACTUAL Theory of Evolution: You don’t need an intelligent designer. All you need is for organisms to reproduce and this virtual engine to exist in the environment. Organisms, in a self-organizing fashion, will evolve their morphology; their physiology and behavior.
September 5, 2026 at 6:04 PM
Variation is an enabling constraint because it increases an organism’s options on morphology, and Selection occurs due to scarcity of resources in the environment.
September 5, 2026 at 12:26 AM
Darwin’s Theory of Evolution involves two different kinds of constraints. One is enabling (Variation) and one is selective (Selection).
Enabling Constraints make more things possible for a system, while Selective Constraints limit the number of options for a system.

Path Constraints are constraints on the kind of path you can make use of when you’re moving from the initial state to the goal state.

What is the difference between Causes and Constraints?

Causes are events that change what is actual. Constraints are conditions that change what is possible.

What is the Deep Continuity Hypothesis?

The Deep Continuity Hypothesis states that the principles that govern your biology are continuous with the principles that govern your cognition.

Relevance Realization refers to the process by which individuals determine what is meaningful to them in their lives.

According to Herbert A. Simon and Allen Newell (1957) any given problem can be broken down into the following 4 subcomponents: initial state, goal state, operations, and search space.
September 1, 2026 at 1:06 PM
You have a “problem” when your initial state and your goal state are different from each other.

A “problem solution” refers to any sequence of operations that transforms the initial state into the goal state while obeying the path constraints.

General Intelligence refers to one’s capacity as a general problem solver. Human beings are general problem solvers—we can solve a wide variety of problems in a wide variety of domains.

Interestingly, psychometric testing of IQ in the 1920’s and 1930’s (Spearman) revealed what’s called a “positive manifold”—how you did on any one of these tests, was strongly predictive of how you would do on all the other tests.

What is Artificial Intelligence? Briefly, artificial intelligence refers to the theory and development of computer systems able to perform tasks which would ordinarily require human intelligence.

Agency is central to being a person. “Personhood”, as propose by Dr. Vervaeke, is determined as an agent that is responsive to meaningfulness in an intelligent, rational and virtuous manner. That is to say, a “person” is a cognitive agent that is expected to be reasonably virtuous.
August 29, 2026 at 7:54 PM
A Cognitive Agent is defined as, a self directed knower and actor. What does this mean?

Everything behaves, but a cognitive agent can determine the consequences of it’s behavior, and change it’s behavior in order to alter those consequences; often in pursuit of some desired goal.
