I guess I just don't understand what people mean when they say a fantasy story sounds "too modern". A romantic couple speaking casually to each other in private is apparently "too modern." Someone cursing is "too modern". What do you want? For characters in fantasy to sound like Shakespeare?

Hard to believe Dolly is gone. She was an unparalleled force of good and kindness in the world. And she made some of the greatest country music of her generation. Even if you don’t care for her songs, it’s undeniable the good work she did. We should all hope to leave such a legacy behind.

Nothing quite like waking up to four different rejection letters at the same time. Granted, one of them was my own fault because I accidentally sent in a file with my name on it instead of without like they’d asked but still. Good start to the day

'I have come to the conclusion that, while not just anything can be Sword & Sorcery, Sword & Sorcery can be anything.
There could be no more varied a collection of stories—varied in tone, in setting, in protagonist, in subject—yet all easily fit within the brawny, welcoming arms of the sacred genre'
Woo!!! Swords and Sorcery Magazine just published the omnibus review I wrote for the four @newedgeswordmag.bsky.social novellas (and one novelette!) that @obrackenbury.bsky.social is releasing this year. Head on over, and have a look!

(spoiler: I loved them all)

My brother put out an album last week and it's pretty good! You should give it a listen, especially if you like bluegrass/folk music.
