Roihu is Here: What You Need to Know?
CSC’s new national supercomputer Roihu has been opened for general use, significantly increasing the national scientific computing capacity available in Finland. This brings numerous changes: for example, the copy of the open newspapers and journals dataset from the National Library of Finland has been moved to Roihu, and the adoption of the next-generation system means that the previous-generation machines Puhti and Mahti will be decommissioned.

Networked communities, the traces they leave and the phenomena they reveal
The summer edition of the FIN-CLARIAH traveling seminar married historical and contemporary phenomena by featuring methods for researching communities and their interactions. The DARIAH-FI node at UEF hosted some 25 FIN-CLARIAH partners and local researchers to a night-less encounter in Joensuu on June 11-12. This blog recollects a handful of talks summarizing starting points, methods and tricks to untangle complex and hidden subjects with aid of traces found in diverse written records and forms of communication.

From Hackathon to publication – Bookmarking Emotional Memories
How will I capture this moment? Multiple times I have asked myself this question. As ethnographer I have witnessed emotional moments. While doing fieldwork in a history class, students closed a month-long review to Europe's colonial history with several minutes of silence; "kids are struggling with this, all are looking at their desks, faces look as if they were having trouble swallowing or stomach ache" is jotted in my field diary.

(⛓️1/2) Finnish researchers fear risking freedom of R+D if national Copyright regulation around #AI and #TDM diverges from European. EU Infras are trusted, but only if they are built together can reach competitiveness. Abiding national instead of EU regulation risks siloed and inefficient research.
