You certainly can, we just subbed our Financial Controller going on paternity leave. We got a very competent Interim controller that had plenty of time to settle in w/o issues. I myself took 8 months and the world kept turning. Fact is over 57 countries have statutory parental leave over 6 months.

Same as you would do if either one of them fell sick or quit you would need to hire a substitute and possibly train them (you'd probably get an ample heads up though compared to the other cases so the person going on maternity leave can train). Surely a little store will have staff rotation anyway.

I wrote a long answer to be read in reverse :-) mainly because the topic interests me, and your perspective is completely valid if you're not used to this system. Maybe it'll be useful to someone else in the thread too. I wasn't trying to bombard you in particular!

And a well-run business shouldn't depend on one irreplaceable employee anyway. Pregnancy also gives an employer months of notice, unlike an unexpected illness, so there's plenty of time to plan cover, redistribute work or arrange a replacement.

It's also part of the normal Swedish employment system and expectations, so employers plan around it. The flexibility itself helps and both parents being able to share the burden also helps.

They manage the absence, as with other extended absences. but that's the point of the system. Parental leave can be split between parents and taken part-time, and employers can use temporary cover or redistribute work. It isn't simply “a woman disappears for a year while the employer pays her salary

-Don't mention the war crimes he doesn't respond well to that, talk about something he likes.. no - not genocide.

No octogenarians, no alcoholics, no junkies, no pdf files, no criminals, no fraudsters, no con men... And with that they'd be nobody left in government.

You might also find it interesting to know that a much larger proportion of working-age Swedish women are employed than American women. Sweden: ~75% vs US: ~67% (2025 data).

Not “maternity leave” in Sweden. It’s parental leave: 480 paid days per child, shared, with 90 days reserved for each. So fathers take substantial leave, the state pays the benefit, and employers can’t discriminate against parents taking leave. It spreads the employment risk between men and women

"Officials knew the calls were made by pranksters.” Right there in the title. So the answer is,not shown up would Indeed have been a better call, and idk investigating who's been making the prank calls instead. Police this incompetent seems to be a US thing. And it costs the taxpayers half a million

It's truly a morally bankrupt country and you cannot only blame its government as the people living there have access to the same information we do and still support them. War crimes, genocide, torture and so many other unspeakable horrors - they are fine with it. Not everyone surely, but oh so many

An octogenarian calling other perfectly normal and young competent people demented in yet another rambling dementia sounding post just because they ask him for some of the accountability required by just any other other public representative. How bizzare.

Would be interesting to see a summary of say Kaitlan's probably quite reasonable questions that most people would want an answer to and then Trump's absolutely insulting and/or avoidant answers and/or outrageous lies.
September 24, 2026 at 6:19 AM
Can't wait till that demented old git kicks the bucket, what an absolute embarrassment for the US to have elected a person like that to lead their country. He's like an amalgamation of character flaws stuck onto a sack of manure.
September 22, 2026 at 7:10 PM
The stupidest president any country has ever had.
September 16, 2026 at 11:17 PM
I mean of you even for a second think that trump would give anyone but himself and his mates any money you're beyond redemption. Didn't he already promise various similar payments that never materialized
September 16, 2026 at 11:06 PM
What the actual f. The US really needs to get its shit together. You could already be a convicted criminal, a sex offender, an insurrectionist, in severe cognitive decline, a foreign asset and still qualify for running the country, but apparently now a functioning brain is also optional.

Let's support Iran and China's ally - Russia, as we continue a pointless war against Iran to support the war criminal Nethanyahu. when the Iran war directly and almost immediately caused the price of oil to increase as literally everyone knew it would, then let's blame our ally Ukraine for no reason
September 14, 2026 at 10:51 AM
It's sad to see that the US is allied with dictators, oligarchs and war criminals across the world whilst conducting economic warfare against its historically closest Allie's and other western democracies. Why, because he's a corrupt traitor and wannabe dictator that doesn't respect the constitution
September 14, 2026 at 10:45 AM
I don't understand, you sound like you were born yesterday. Tell me how you'll get companies to sell oil at below global rates in a capitalist economy. Is it by texting "lmao, cool story bro" online and hoping they'll listen or do you have any policy suggestions that would make your fantasy happen?
September 12, 2026 at 10:03 AM
How would you run a US oil company? Would you just choose to sell it cheaper than what the markets are paying, leaving the arbitrage to your buyers for no reason? I'd love to see that board meeting ;-) Actually, let me play that out for you...
September 12, 2026 at 7:07 AM
Say a US producer sells cheap, great, now every trader on Earth buys it up and resells it at the actual world price, pocketing the difference. The oil leaves the country either way.
You can't hold a global commodity below the global market price. You just hand a free lunch to whoever buys it first.

Kill everyone with untreated postpartum psychosis. Don't try to understand psychosis and especially don't try to prevent this from ever happening again. Vengeance is the way to improve society.
