Another image of rattlesnake master (Eryngium yuccifolium L.) getting ready to bloom. I'm really happy to see about 8 blooms developing on this plant. It's in its second year and seems to be thriving.

Everyone’s favorite native, common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca L.). Best known for its role in supporting monarch butterflies, over 450 species of insects are known to feed on some part of the plant. I’m finding out this year how much it tends to spread, as I’m finding it popping up all over.

Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) is a perennial woody native vine that is often mistaken for poison ivy. The easiest way to tell the difference is that poison ivy has 3 leaves, Virginia creeper has 5. It's one of my favorite natives.

Compass plant (Silphium laciniatum) sprouts, along with a shot showing "what I see" with the camera setup. The little red box in the distance is the sprout that I'm shooting. Compass plants can survive for up to 100 years under the right conditions, this is year 2 for these ones. 🙂

Canon Digital Rebel (aka 300D) with a 135mm f/2 L lens. I got it converted for IR in 2009. I'm thinking of getting my 7D converted, so I'm brushing up on IR.

I went out yesterday to a local conservatory to shoot some infrared images. I haven't shot any IR in over 10 years, so it took me a while to get back into the groove of pre-visualizing what the camera "sees".
I'm happy with the results. :)
Not bad for a 22 year old camera with all of 6 megapixels.

This is a bittersweet photo. This was Peanut’s orthopedic bed. It got him through the last couple of years of his life before we lost him 5 months ago at the ripe old age of 17.
Gizmo finally feels like he can make it his own. Somewhere Peanut is looking on with his goofy smile.
