Latest Bass Rock gannet census reveals continued decline
The latest Northern Gannet census at Bass Rock, Lothian, has revealed that the number of occupied nests continues to decline. Results for the 2024 Bass Rock Gannet Count showed a total of 46,045 apparently occupied sites, equating to a decrease of 6.7% on the 2023 figure. The Scottish Seabird Centre has suggested that Bass Rock's famous gannet population has not yet started to recover from the impact of the avian flu outbreak in 2022.

Great to see two kingfishers at Linlithgow Loch yesterday. I think the bird on the right is male. Not sure if the other could be a juvenile? #birdinglothian

I am still getting used to Bluesky, but I can breathe here. Musk has silenced all voices but his own. Sad to see the demise of Twitter, but glad that Bluesky lives and breathes.
