Yeah, if the mode is 1/3 of teachers then it's not a good descriptor of the typical. I think the why of it is pretty clear: he wants to reframe the narrative (we've only heard from the union). He wants to justify the district’s position & shift public pressure onto SEA. It does all of that I think.

To be fair, he talked about "the salary line that the greatest number of teachers are in (1060 teachers)." He didn't use the highest paid teachers or the lowest paid.

I have a child in SPS and I don't see that at all. You're saying this guy who has worked in education his whole career now wants to leap to some corporate position? I haven't digested all of the arguments on both sides, but if anything he claimed in his email was false I definitely want to know.

It was a looong email, but I appreciated that he explained it from his point of view. Obviously, he's going to advocate for his position. I didn't find it smarmy or dictatorial. Is there anything in the substance of what he said that was false?

It's nice of them to associate so we can identify them. Thanks for sharing this. Eric Turkheimer has been doing great work debunking the hereditarian lies. It's frustrating to have to always these zombie ideologies. Can't drive a stake through the heart of them or... whatever you do to zombies.

That's the part I don't get. He's 72 years old. I'll be surprised if he lasts another 10 years given the gunk he put in his body & continues to experiment with. Even if his lies goose up the money he gets in speaking fees when he leaves government , he & his wife already have tens of million$.

Same here. I'm a parent & it may just be my experience & my perception of that of my Gen X cohort, but I've invested an order of magnitude (or 2 or 3) more time & attention in raising my kids than our parents did. Having their normal independent adult lives now can feel low-contact/no-contact to us.

One of the comments on the article said Baby Boomers often went no-contact/low-contact with parents when that meant moving away & not flying back to visit/ not making expensive long distance calls. Ease of contact and travel has changed, not an increase in the behavior. Sounds plausible to me.

This man works for a Chinese company and married a Russian immigrant. His great grandparents came from Austria and Bohemia at a time when almost anyone could be an American if they could get here. What did he think he was voting for?

As far as I can tell, there's no authoritative census of all US/UK fiction publishing. A lot of folks point to the Waldfogel study. An interesting conclusion a lot of folks miss: the increase in female authorship expanded the total pool of books instead of merely replacing male-authored titles.

I just finally picked up Sorrow and Bliss last weekend. Just wonderful. I'll never see Cookie Monster quite the same way again. Looking forward to this one now.

He's on his fourth marriage, he's been found guilty of drunk driving, driving with cocaine, and accused of having sex with his children's underage babysitter. But then he found Jesus and Donald Trump. I think a lot of people must also regret that he did not go and fight in Vietnam.
