Great to attend my third #SDTConference! I presented our systematic review on novelty as a candidate basic psychological need (73 studies), met inspiring colleagues including Johnmarshall Reeve and @asgharahmadi.bsky.social, an enjoyed a fantastic conference in Geneva 😊😊

Saddened to hear about the passing of Edward Deci. His work on SDT profoundly inspired me and so many others around the world. I will always remember his kindness in asking a thoughtful question in my presentation on the need for novelty at SDT Conference. His legacy will endure.

In this chapter, we review the existing literature about novelty from #SDT. Novelty satisfaction is positively associated with a range of positive consequences in different countries and cultures, while novelty frustration is positively related to negative consequences.
