We all knew my favorite Horror film would come up eventually. I'm a shameless Shirley Jackson fan girl, and while she didn't quite like this Adaptation, I certainly did. No gay subtext here, just text.

I think Val Lewton, producer of The 7th Victim, would appreciate how beautiful they made death look in this film.
A classic film featuring a troubled unreliable narrator, though a change in perspective at one point does make things less ambigious than intended.

So a few years bad I wrote a poem describing the trans experience as being the "Lady Frankenstein". I love this beautiful and tragic film. The bride is only alive for a few moments before she's ultimately killed for rejecting a man. Disturbingly on point I would say.

I could make this ALL giant monster movies. But Bong Joon-Ho's The Host is among the best of the best. Satirical, thrilling, a little bit scary, and overall mesmerizing. There are few that are even remotely close to this masterpiece. I still think its Bong Joon-Ho's best film.

This movie made me think more about the nature of the body count in a horror film. It's a high body count, but at no point does the loss of life not raise the the stakes. I get bored with characters who are dispatched just to fill time in a 90 minute film.

This movie disturbed me as a kid. And it disturbed me as an adult. Probably moreso, now that I'm able to pick up on the queer subtext. Sad Lesbian starts hanging out with a bunch of Satanists, breaks their rules, and then is targeted for death. Fantastic film.

Y'all must have known this one would be first. I love this eerie little movie. Sure, the end twist is pretty obvious from the start; even when it was released it had become cliche. But this is all about the atmophere, the cinematography, and the performance.

Naomi is Eris's neighbor. One who could have been a friend at one point, before Eris shut herself out from the world. Like everyone else, she cannot see the growths. However, she is able to recognize that Eris is suffering.

Eris is a trans woman in her thirties who is cursed with a mysterious afflication. Large, blister like growths appear on her skin. Growths that erupt into black thorny vines. As these growths appear invisible to others, she finds herself suffering alone.

Eris, a thirty year old trans woman, finds large growths on her body. Growths that erupt into plant-like vines that appear invisible to all others.
But if the Growths cannot be seen, how can anyone believe her suffering is anything but a figment of her imagination?
