Waiter, restauranteur, "wine guy", unionist, activist, ex-journo (twice). Proudly left, throws right. USA ex-pat. Twitter refugee. Passionate about work, friends, family, sport.
"Dadda, everyone says I'm fat."

So says Keira, alias #FattoCatto, to me, and she's right.

Other neighborhood cats, along with the birds on the lawn, possums outside, and the ladies at the local cat cafe, among others, all make fun of her.

Clinical trial day. Yet the long commute gets even longer in time. Sighs.

I got the Australian government emergency test alert on my phone at 2pm, as promised.

However, my daily 2pm "take your pill, Will" alarm on my phone superceded it, reducing the other alert to a mere dialogue box.

Spared the shrill noises. Neener, neener, neener...

A cheap plug: My other half Jennifer has her Etsy shop (Coastal Artisan Studios) up and running, where she has created by hand a variety of polymer clay creations.

Why, oh why do I have to get sick right before the weekend??

Massive head cold, and I have exactly 24 hours from this writing to shake this thing to be ready for restaurant work.

And yes, I know, I know... rest and fluids.

Yesterday, Fatto Catto got to eat people foodses twice! Roast chicken after *her* lunch, and grilled barramundi after *her* dinner!

That was in addition to her daily intake of three wet meals, her bowl of kibble, and her snacky.

And certain people wonder why everyone says that she's so fat.

Clinical trial day today. Have arrived at the clinic.

Once again, other than for the odd work assignment, it's one of the lone things keeping me connected to life in Melbourne.

With the spending of my gift card, my birthday haul is now completed! The local Bed, Bath & Table outlet was having a sale on sheets and bedding, so I got a couple of throws.

Off to periodic work-related training sessions today, but also sparing a thought or two for my brother back home John, who is going in for some some major and quite delicate surgery today or tomorrow our time.

Pretty good birthday haul.

Loving my new Cheval-style mirror, the hand-held steamer will come in handy for enhancing my work clothes, got some lollies to munch on, nice to have a new bottle of my favorite cologne, and will spend the gift card later today after lunch.

They remembered!! 🎂🎉

My co-workers, front-of-house and back-of-house alike, brought out some cheesecake after lunch service to help celebrate my birthday yesterday! And about six of them even greeted me in song with this!

Good thing I was polishing forks at the time...

Waking up another year older today. 🎂

Every birthday is a gift unto itself. For the last ten years, each one has been a bonus, given all of the health challenges, issues and scares I've had in that time, and blessed to be celebrating each one.

60+1.

Birthday weekend, from now until Sunday, and all celebrations involved, starts now.

But as luck would have it, I'm working every day between now and including my actual birthday on Sunday. And that's after having had the last few days off!

All of my birthday presents from others have arrived here.

However, it's now in a state of "do not open until Sunday". Damn.

Being sick with a head cold and a chest infection. No fun, no fair!

On antibiotics, and my GP has instructed me to lay low for a couple of days.

Clinical trial day. See how things are going with this experimental heart medication.

My other half has recently launched her new Etsy shop. Very cute earrings for starters, more polymer clay jewelry creations to come.

Feedback absolutely appreciated -- I'll make sure she sees everything (she is not on BlueSky).

Finished my physical therapy program earlier today, and to be completely honest, not too sure if I even needed this final session.

Knee and hamstring feel good -- and the change of scenery of the new job helps quite a bit, too.

Petrol, at my local station in my end of Geelong, now down to $1.85/litre.

A buck-eighty-five! Yeah!!

I know I filled the tank yesterday morning, but at that price, couldn't help topping up before I resume my work week tomorrow.

Clinical trial day. Happens once a month, for an experimental heart medication due to be approved.

I do get compensated for this. And that money actually covers the petrol I filled the car with this morning.

Let that sink in.

Heading off to a get-together with my most recent old co-workers (presumably in my honor, so they say), and riding that last leg of the VLine trip between Footscray and Southern Cross stations, I am reminded of a basic, emotional state of being...

Melbourne, I love you, and I am going to miss you.

#GardenUpdate, and things in the backyard fruit and veggie gardens are progressing quite well.

Strawberries are starting to come in; tomatoes, while still green, are beginning to sprout in numbers; one capsicum is holding steady and growing; and cucumbers are blossoming and growing!

The final night at the old job is now in the books. And really fighting back the temptation to shed tears now that it's over.

Queenscliff restaurant update:

Had a few long shifts this week. Very full-on next week, working almost every day, lunch and dinner shifts -- it's going to be intense, but very much looking forward to it!

Started my new restaurant gig today, outside of Geelong.

Still have a week to go on my old one, back in Melbourne.

Going to be a busy week, but the sea change that I have been looking for, over the last 12 months, is finally happening.
