Watched Carney and Smith's press conference this morning on the new west coast oil pipeline Pacific Link. Carney also effectively committed that the feds will also bring forward regs to allow tailings pond water to be released into the Athabasca river.

I’m not crying, you’re crying.
This is very much worth a read. Particularly in dark times.
"Perhaps prison would have persisted this way forever. Perhaps our granite hearts and iron wills would have never crumbled. Perhaps the prison mentality, that we be cold and heartless, would have endured.

Perhaps. But then there were kittens."

Important new consultation that no one seems to be talking about. Maybe because it will only matter after an imminent federal election, but have your say.

…during a call … with the other premiers and the PM he also advocated for the federal government to "immediately approve the Energy East pipeline”.

Is there a mystery Energy East pipeline application sitting around waiting for approval, that no one knows about??

This is a potentially important new mechanism for First Nations to exercise their sovereignty on major projects. But the details will determine how meaningful these agreements will be. I encourage my Indigenous contacts to get involved.

RIP Shane McGowan

Now you'll sing a song of liberty for blacks and paks and jocks
And they'll take you from this dump you're in and stick you in a box
Then they'll take you to Cloughprior and shove you in the ground
But you'll stick your head back out and shout "We'll have another round"

Fun fact: we need more critical minerals for the clean energy transition, but in the 4 years since the new federal Impact Assessment Act came into force, there are 13 mining proposals that trigger a federal review - only 3 are critical minerals, with 2 coal, 1 oil sands, 7 gold (2 incl copper).
