If you just watched Drive (2011) this is probably the best quick commentary on it:

2011 Drive

From gemini:

"Nicolas Winding Refn and screenwriter Hossein Amini didn't set out to make an literal homage or a period piece—they built a modern fable that uses Michael Mann’s visual and atmospheric grammar as a structural blueprint rather than a set of props."

This is the movie Kubrick used to figure out how to shoot private pyle dying in full metal jacket. Would like to see it if I can get my wife interested.

When I want to hear about new music I'll usually do something with AI like "Tell me about a band that sounds like ____" (some really old band I like, ie Jackson Browne)

And usually I get 5 or 6 great suggestions I never heard of and just jam on them.

This movie can definitely induce the "I don't get why critics like this" reaction. 95% critic RT.

Aside from being French, short answer is they did a horror movie about spiders without CGI, lots of real spiders. Points for originality.

I wasn't enterained though. (english title - Infested)

A lot of 1980s horror movies have meh RT critic scores. And this is often viewed as an off brand Gremlins. But some horror afficianados really respect it. Maybe I'll get around to it.

Judging by everything people say about Sanderson I will stop with this one. Supposedly his best. But he's worth a one book read.

It occured to me that Stephen King really had a lot of interest in incel issues. The boomer, proto version. Jocks vs nerds, male entitlement etc all themes.

Feeling like I've had enough of literary horror. It just feels kind of predictable

He might be on to something? Idk. I saw this one in the theaters. It felt solid but like a lot of horror movies - ending felt underwhelming.

I thought it was good, but horror has kind of ran out of ideas. So indeed just not that original I guess. Liked the casting of the woman though.

having trouble getting into this one.

I never liked the song Linda rondstadt "You and I dance to teh beat of a different drummer." But someone was pointing out when you hear it on actually decent sound rather than say at starbucks.

You know, the harpsichord. Some effort there in the arrangement.

Not really enjoying this. But perhaps literary horror just isn't for me.
September 16, 2026 at 4:22 PM
Ending is polarizing. I get it. But I'd say the ending is a 5 but rest of the film is a 10 so maybe this is an 8 film.
