Since everyone’s arguing about speed cameras, let’s keep a couple facts in mind:

1) Research show that camera enforcement is much more popular than the media implies – in suburbs as well as cities.

Lesson: Don’t conflate a few angry car owners with “public opinion.”

Automated Traffic Enforcement Is More Popular Than You Think
Cameras that ticket drivers who run red lights and speed are effective and widely popular with city residents. So why are they banned in so many places?

Horrific and a devastating human tragedy. Why has there not been wider mainstream coverage and debate about this case? Some crimes rightly dominate headlines for weeks. Yet road crimes even of this magnitude do not. Increased awareness can help create safer travel.

New all-time record set on the Leith Walk cycle lane - 2,568 cyclists on 30th April, 2026. There has been another surge in cycling this spring after slow growth in 2025, and last year's record has already been broken 10 times.

Close passes are dangerous, have consequences and aren't worth the risk.

Our #GiveCycleSpace campaign runs on radio, buses and digital in Tayside and Central Scotland for the next four weeks, funded by Tactran: reminding people of the need for at least 1.5m space when overtaking someone on a bike.

Not sure if it’s officially officially open yet as the entrance on Dock Street still has fencing - but the Leith Connections section along Sandport has had all barriers removed and is a JOY to ride!

Want to ride along? 😁

While I understand the BBC’s imperative to provide balance in stories, at times it can feel completely ludicrous. Data vs one person’s entirely anecdotal opinion isn’t balance.
