I’m excited to finally share “Self-Portrait” — a sculptural book I began conceptualizing in 2021. The work explores identity, memory, and material through a fusion of traditional bookbinding and digital fabrication. (1/2)

Another Strata piece: a fairness pitcher (公道杯), or pourer. Started with thick walls and a thick bottom, faceted away, then carved and textured until it reads like stone and cliff. Oxides and glaze layer the color. Really pleased with this one. 🧵 #pottery #ceramics #handmade #手作陶器

A new vase from my Strata series. I gave it a textured surface and carved wing-motif panels into it.

For glazing, I added a number of oxides along with the glazes over the carving. Let me know what you think!

This is where it landed. Six pieces, the first of many. Strata builds successive layers of carved surfaces and glazes. Each piece starts carved, then layered with glazes—resisted or pooling into cuts. A record of mark-making in clay.

What if I kept carving? Two glaze tests on the same carved surface showed me the question I was actually asking: how to build successive layers of carved marks and glaze. This became Strata. #pottery #ceramics #handmade #potteryprocess #手作陶器

A few months ago I learned to hand build 紫砂壺, a zisha teapot, in China with a Yixing-trained teacher. Three full days of work for one pot.
Every technique has a specific name, and so does every tool. That alone tells you how much has gone into keeping this craft alive.

"Menorah" series
A homage to the menorah, an object I have my own long relationship with. Carved channels at the base are candles, blue-glazed shapes above are flames, the tops fading blue to white. This motif keeps pulling me back, more to come.

I keep making these. These are two new variants from my “Bands” series, which I've been developing and refining. The greenware shots show where the pattern lives before glaze.

This vase is the result of experimenting with a couple of surface techniques, paired with a glaze I've been trying that fires to this beautiful matte, worn finish. It gives this ancient, found-object quality I really wasn't expecting.

Carved greenware with newspaper resist for pre-bisque glazing — mapped the glaze layout on my iPad first. Visualizing it digitally made the difference. 🔥The kiln has the final say, but this came out as I imagined. #pottery #potteryprocess #ceramics #handmade #手作陶器

⚠️Trypophobia warning: clustered patterns! ⚠️
Fascinating how patterns unsettle. Each hole carved intentionally, glazed by hand — tedious, meditative, satisfying. I sit between awe and unease. Art that makes you feel something?

Made these 5 small vases with similar glazes and surface texture. Anyone else compulsively rearrange their own work or just me?

Definitely one of my favorites so far! Blue bands, white glaze, and a whole lot of patience. Sharing the full journey on this one—from trimming greenware to the final glaze firing. Love when a plan actually comes together!

Exploring a fresh look for my low‑jar: I dove into graphic design and created a stylized rendition of my surname, weaving in the Qing‑era motif Wan Shou Wu Jiang (萬壽無疆) rendered in bold yellow. How does this mix of ancient symbolism and modern flair strike you?

After a year of pottery I’m proud of my steady practice. Instead of chasing every online trend, I stay patient, mindful, and focused on the process. Here are some of the small vases with layered glazes and textures.

For us potters, not every piece turns out the way we envision, but that’s all part of the fun journey! Here are a few of my creations from this year that experienced a glaze mishap. Each one tells its own story, and the mishap doesn’t take away from that! Thoughts?

This green “honey jar” has subtle ring carvings. After a white slip, it’s glazed deep‑green with a slight drip that gives a fun honey‑jar vibe. The glaze pools in the grooves, highlighting the rings in a lush, forest‑tone contrast. #pottery #potteryprocess

This is my favorite pot from last year. It combines techniques I developed—carving for ditches, glazed slip for color, and multiple resist methods. I love the sharp, slanted neck that gives it a clean, minimalist feel while the stripes gently extend into the jar's interior. #pottery #minimalist

I’ve made three of these vases so far, but the first one (the one on the left) is still my favorite. Its vertical lines feel more perfectly proportioned, balancing nicely with the band design at the bottom.

A low jar with rough, jagged bands connected by thin vertical lines. There’s a brown band around the rim, and a surprise splash of red glaze that I can’t quite figure out. #pottery

I shattered this jar the moment I collected it from the studio last Summer, and finally repaired it on the last day of the year. A beautiful way to wrap up the year. Onto a great 2026. #pottery #kintsugi

Petals (2025). In the fluted rim of this pot I carved extra recesses between each glazed valley, creating a striking contrast with the deep grooves. With the leaf pattern, the overall shape hints at Moorish designs—detailed, timeless, and a touch mysterious. #pottery #MoorishDesign

Jade‑green banded vase with a subtle glaze shift between the brown and white clay. The light contrast lets the natural texture shine. #pottery

Some say they’re Art Deco, but to me they feel more like a whisper of Japanese simplicity. Minimalist lines that flow into the bands below, turning everyday moments into pure pleasure. #pottery #minimalist
