Eddie wasn't threatening nor dangerous. He was protective and warm, lovely. They were two sides of the same coin. And Steve was determined to get the alpha to court him.

An alpha he can see himself with. An alpha who can help Steve become his true self. An alpha to be the only one for him. To see him. To see each other for who they are and not what everyone expects them to be. Steve never wanted the mantle of a popular jock. He wanted the simplicity of life.

The first time Steve speaks with Eddie; it feels like a revelation.

Steve starts hanging around more, waiting for the kids to come out from their club. He gets stared at by the other members. Curious eyes wondering why the King of Hawkins High is there. Before the school year ends Steve drags Robin along to a Hellfire meeting. He's curious. He wants more.

Steve's entire world is turned on his axis. He watches how Eddie is with the kids. How goofy and silly an alpha can be. How his scent doesn't bother him in overbearing way. How he smells like the forest, like morning dew and the sun as it peaks from the clouds after a rainy day.

The shots increase to once every two weeks to once a week. Until his body adapts to the hormones and begins secreting his own. Until his knot disappears.
Steve meets Eddie. He's an alpha. Steve already assumes the kind of person the super senior is.

He begins taking little pink pills every morning; a shot once a month. The changes are gradual. The first to go is his scent. Gone is the sweaty musk that followed him around like a dark cloud. In its place is something slightly sweeter, almost like vanilla. His skin texture changes.

Robin helps him, they're platonic soulmates, siblings from different parents, twins long forgotten. She sees Steve for who he is. She goes with him to appointments out into the city.

It's only when he gets a part time job at the new mall where he meets Robin. They get locked in the store freezer, cuddling for warmth even though it seemed as if Robin hated his guts. They're stuck there for two hours and in those two hours they understand each other more than anyone else.

His senior year he stops hanging out with his friends. He just stops hanging out, stops hosting parties and he stops sports. He loves sports don't get him wrong, he's just sick and tired being surrounded by knotheads.
